MANHATTAN MARLINS

Pool Heater Broken, Practice Cancelled Saturday, October 26th, 2024

Reid Carlson

Hello Swim Families!

Due to an unfortunate mechanical malfunction with the pool at Genesis, there will be NO PRACTICE tomorrow morning, Saturday, October 26th.

We apologize for the inconvenience and short-notice.

Friday the temperature in the pool was falling as the heater had stopped regulating earlier in the day. As we expect overnight temperatures close to freezing and percipitously falling water temperature, it is in the best interest of the athletes that the Marlins take off Saturday, October 26th.

For reference, World Aquatics, the World Governing Body for swimming, recommends all pools be kept between 77 and 82 degrees Fahrenheit (25 degrees to 28 degrees Centigrade). While it is not necessarily dangerous to practice at levels below 77 degrees F, or even 75 degrees F, it is difficult on the swimmers, and, based on the predicted overnight temperatures, it is likely the pool tomorrow morning will be below 75 degrees Fahrenheit.

We anticipate to return to our normal practice schedule on Monday, October 28th.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you,
