Hello Swim Families!

As we approach the third week of our 2025 fall season, we shift our technical focus to backstroke!

Backstroke, like freestyle, is a long-axis stroke, so the work we do this week will greatly compliment the skills we have worked on in weeks one and two which were freestyle-oriented.

We will emphasize body position, head position, rotation, catch and pull, and backstroke turns. We will place an emphasis on backstroke starts (and forward-facing starts) in a couple of weeks.

Regarding conditioning, we are still building the aerobic base necessary to have a successful season. For our younger swimmers (8- to 12-years-old), the scope of aerobic conditioning is far broader as we aim to build their capacity to train at more difficult levels in the future. They will continue to focus on a great deal of technique while also doing a mixture of endurance-oriented and short-sprint-oriented sets each week.

As a reminder, our first meet of the season is October 10-12 in Gladstone, MO, just across the border, hosted by Tsunami Swim Team. This is a great meet to get back into racing and spend time with teammates! Registration is open on our website and the registration deadline is September 27th!

Please let me know if you have any questions, and I’ll see you at the pool!
