The Wahoos are the area’s youth USA Swimming team. Swimming is an individual sport with a strong team and social element. Beginners work at their own pace and swim the meets of their choice, but you can be as competitive as you want to be. You don’t need to be an expert swimmer in all four strokes to begin. Nobody sits on the bench on our team. Everyone works to achieve their own goals, whether it be just swimming across the pool or qualifying for a national meet.

General Guidelines to Join:

  • New swimmers should be able to swim 25 yards freestyle and backstroke and be comfortable in deep water. Swimmers who have completed level 5 of UND's Swim ND program are good candidates.

  • Sept-March Short Course season and/or April-July Long Course season, but you can start any time. Register for the team online.

  • Practice offered every evening at the UND pool

  • You decide how often to practice. Most beginners practice 2-3 times per week.

  • Compete at your own pace. You decide which meets to swim in GF, Fargo, Bismarck, Jamestown, etc (schedules and locations change every season)

  • Professional coaches

  • Coaching staff will evaluate each new swimmer to identify which practice group is ideal for their entry point.

  • Swimmers range from age 6-18 and are members of USA Swimming
