Record Setting and Trend Setting Weekend for the Mariners

Kevin Carney

What a fantastic and exciting weekend we had for the Mariners!

Over the course of the weekend, we had 4 Long Course Meters team records broken and 4 new Open Water team records established.

We had six Mariners participate in a Mariners first time ever event! Congratulations to Jack Gehlmeyer, Derek Knoll, Sam Herbst, Henry Herbst, Ben Midland and Maddy Ball for being the first Mariners to participate in an Open Water meet! The six swimmers swam down the shore in the Bay in Marmora, NJ as part of the Eastern Zone Open Water Championships. Derek and Sam swam the open water mile. Derek placed 16th overall to establish a new Mariners open water mile record in 17:31. Jack and Ben swam the 2.5 K (2,500 meters- 1.5 miles of swimming). Jack set the new Mariners open water record with a time of 30:53.7. Maddy also swam the 2.5 K and set the Mariners female open water record in the 2.5 K swim with a time of 31.26.80. Henry swam the grueling 5 K open water swim (3.1 miles of swimming!) and established the Mariners record at 62:32.40. Well done team!

We also had four records broken at Rutgers this weekend where we had swimmers competing at the Big CAT LC Challenge

Zach Snyder broke the 9-10 200 LCM back record!

Alexia Morales Aizpun broke the 11-12 LCM records in the 100 free, 100 fly and 200 free this weekend.

Zach and Alexia have broken a team record in every single Long Course meet we have competed in this Long Course season!

Keep up the great work team!
