Bobcat Bulletin 9/8/25

Bobcats,

Well, that was FUN! Thank you to the Parent Engagement Committee (Erin Watkins, Lora Snodgrass, Fran Wymbs) for planning such an incredible season-opening event! The Back-to-Swim Cookout was the perfect way for us to kick off the season with so much positive energy!

For those of you who were unable to attend the cook-out, attached is a newsletter that highlights more upcoming events sponsored by the parent engagement committe. Please make it a priority to attend! As you can see, most of them occur during practice time! Just drop off your child for practice and head upstairs! You'll have the chance to meet other BSC parents and stay involved!

 

1. PRACTICE SCHEDULE:

This week we hit the water! Most of our groups will start training tonight! 

As a reminder, children 12 and under need to have an adult with them when being dropped off for swim practice.  An adult needs to walk the swimmer into the facility and wait with them until their coach takes them for practice.  If you have multiple swimmers on the team, please keep in mind older swimmers will be starting at least 30 minutes prior to the younger groups.  So having an older sibling accompanying a younger sibling may not be feasible.  I know this may be a slight inconvenience, but we want all athletes to be safe.  Ohio University also has an unattended Minors on Campus policy and we want to be respectful of that. We are guests in their facility:)

2. SWIMVILLE SUIT FITTING:

Last week Swimville visited campus to outfit the team with suits and equipment! If you were unable to attend, it's not too late to make your purchases. Attached is the order form and welcome letter that explains the ordering process. You can also call the store and let them know you are with Bobcat Swim Club and they will help you:)

The team has signed a contract with TYR. That means that we are expected to wear TYR suits at competitions. Swimmers will need to have a TYR team suit for all meets. Swimmers can wear the suit of their choosing for practices. Additionally, swimmers will be expected to come to practices with the following pieces of training equipment:

Green Group  (8U): 1 kickboard, a pair of fins, a mesh equipment bag

White Group (9-10): 1 kickboard, a pair of fins, a pair of paddles, a pull buoy, a mesh equipment bag

Black Group (11-12): 1 kickboard, a pair of fins, a pair of paddles, a pull buoy, a snorkel, a mesh equipment bag

Bronze Group (13 over): 1 kickboard, a pair of fins, a pair of paddles, a pull buoy, a snorkel, a mesh equipment bag

Silver Group (13 over): 1 kickboard, a pair of fins, a pair of paddles, a pull buoy, a snorkel, a mesh equipment bag

Gold Group (13 over): 1 kickboard, a pair of fins, a pair of paddles, a pull buoy, a snorkel, a mesh equipment bag

It's hard to believe that I'm asking you to register for meets when we haven't even had our first practice yet! But these swim meets take LOTS of organizing and pre-planning!

You will register for the meets on the team's website, https://www.gomotionapp.com/team/ohbsc/page/home. Click on the "Events" tab. From there look under "Team Events" and you'll see the list of all of the season's meets.

Next to some of the meets, you'll see a pink "Attend/Decline" button. Click on that button and let the coaches know if your child will be participating or not. This is EXTREMELY important as we need to know attendees for making relays!

You should NOT pick your child's meet events! Please allow the coaches to do this!

4. LOGO WEAR SALE:

As a part of the strategic planning process, it was determined that we need to develop cohesion among the athletes and parents. With that in mind, our logo order reflects the goal of strengthening our team.

This season, each athlete will receive a package of shirts. You already paid for these shirts at the time of registration:)! The Green, White, Black, and Bronze groups will receive green and black shirts. The Silver and Gold groups will receive gray, green, and black shirts.

At meets, we will ALL dress similarly according to this schedule:

Friday meets- gray shirts

Saturday meets- green shirts

Sunday meets- black shirts

So, when you go to make your purchases on the attached order form, you may want to select tshirts that coordinate with that schedule. Just think how impressive it will be to see our ENTIRE team dressed in the same colors! And it will be easy to find each other in the crowded stands as we cheer on the team together!

Order forms will be due Sept. 25. They can be given to a coach at practice. Cash and checks made payable to "Bobcat Swim Club" are accpeted forms of payment.

5. SWIMSTRONG DRYLAND MEETINGS:

An important part of our training is the work we do on land to improve fitness and athleticism. This work increases strength which in turn helps to prevent injuries. Bobcat Swim Club is a member of the Swimstrong Dryland (SSDL) community. Throughout the season you will be receiving information from SSDL about training, nutrition, leadership, education and more! The coaching staff believes that this program is beneficial to our athletes and is supporting our team goals!
