Bobcat Bulletin 9/15/25
Bobcats,
Let's talk swim meets! Why should your child participate in them???? Here's a TOP 5 LIST OF REASONS:
1. This is a swim TEAM. Just like soccer has matches and basketball has games, swimming has meets. Participation in soccer matches and basketball games is expected of every athlete on the team. And it's the same with swimming. ALL swimmers are expected to participate! Swim meets are a part of this sport!
2. Swim meets provide feedback to the coaches. During meets, coaches are able to evaluate the swimmers' performances and this evaluation guides practice planning.
3. Swim meets provide feedback for the athletes. Swimmers get the opportunity to put all of those skills they've been learning to the test. They get to guage improvement which provides a BIG confidence boost! The sense of accomplishment they gain does wonders for self-esteem!
4. Swim meets mimic life. They provide an environment where children learn to handle challenges. They learn how to celebrate successes and they learn how to handle failures. Teaching resiliency is one of the most important lessons that sports have to offer!
5. Swim meets are FUN! Not only do they get to hang out with their friends, but they learn about sportsmanship and teamwork! And those lessons are necessary for their development as they become contributing members of society!
So, now that you know why your child should compete, it's time to get them signed up!
The first deadline is FRIDAY! Every year we begin the season with a fun travel-trip to Cincinnati! We hang out at Kings Island on Saturday and race on Sunday! Swimmers in the White, Black, Silver, and Gold groups are encouraged to attend!
We will be holding our first BLOCK PARTY meet during practice on Friday, Sept. 26. Afterward, we will gather on the pool deck for some pizza and team bonding! You don't want to miss it! You have just one week remaining to register for this meet. ALL BOBCATS should compete in this meet at the OUAC!
You will register for the meets on the team's website, https://www.gomotionapp.com/team/ohbsc/page/home. Click on the "Events" tab. From there look under "Team Events" and you'll see the list of all of the season's meets.
Next to some of the meets, you'll see a pink "Attend/Decline" button. Click on that button and let the coaches know if your child will be participating or not. This is EXTREMELY important as we need to know attendees for making relays!
You should NOT pick your child's meet events! Please allow the coaches to do this!
2. FALL BLOCK PARTY, VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
Once your swimmer is registered for the meet, you will need to register for a volunteer position! I need 33 volunteers for this meet! PLEASE don't be intimidated by the thought of helping out. For this first meet, our new parents should register to serve as a timer. You will be paired with at least one veteran parent who will show you the ropes. This is NOT the Olympics so there is no pressure!!!! I promise... you can do this!!!!
So, back on the website where you registered your child to compete, you'll see a green "Job Signup" button. Click on that and pick your task! It's really that simple!
Plus, being on the pool deck is WAY BETTER than sitting on the hard bleachers where it's steamy hot! By being on the pool deck, you get up close to the action and you get to know all of the other parents and kids!
3. LOGO WEAR SALE:
As a part of the strategic planning process, it was determined that we need to develop cohesion among the athletes and parents. With that in mind, our logo order reflects the goal of strengthening our team.
This season, each athlete will receive a package of shirts. You already paid for these shirts at the time of registration:)! The Green, White, Black, and Bronze groups will receive green and black shirts. The Silver and Gold groups will receive gray, green, and black shirts.
At meets, we will ALL dress similarly according to this schedule:
Friday meets- gray shirts
Saturday meets- green shirts
Sunday meets- black shirts
So, when you go to make your purchases on the attached order form, you may want to select tshirts that coordinate with that schedule. Just think how impressive it will be to see our ENTIRE team dressed in the same colors! And it will be easy to find each other in the crowded stands as we cheer on the team together!
Order forms will be due Sept. 25. They can be given to a coach at practice. Cash and checks made payable to "Bobcat Swim Club" are accpeted forms of payment.
Thanks for supporting our mission!
4. SWIMSTRONG DRYLAND MEETINGS:
An important part of our training is the work we do on land to improve fitness and athleticism. This work increases strength which in turn helps to prevent injuries. Bobcat Swim Club is a member of the Swimstrong Dryland (SSDL) community. Throughout the season you will be receiving information from SSDL about training, nutrition, leadership, education and more! The coaching staff believes that this program is beneficial to our athletes and is supporting our team goals!
