Bobcats,

This is the week! We host the season's first invitational Friday- Sunday! 

Tuesday, Oct. 14 will be the deadline for you to select your volunteer position. On Wednesday I will assign positions to those families that have not yet registered for a role. In order for you to get the spot you want, you will need to sign-up on the team's website by the Tuesday deadline. Thank you for supporting the team!!!

1. SPOOKTACULAR INVITATIONAL- MEET INFORMATION:

 

We have received the entries from ten other teams so the meet is set! Attached you will find the following documents to help with your planning:

  • Timeline and warmup assignment
  • psych sheet
  • BSC entry list

The heat sheet will be released later this week because we are allowing teams to make changes through Wednesday.

Parking information for Saturday will be sent to you this week. I'm waiting on OU Parking Services to finalize plans. 

This looks to be a great event for our athletes! I see fast swimming ahead:)

 

2. MEET REGISTRATION:

Thursday is the final day to register for the Mountain State Storm Invitational! Get your entries in ASAP!

You will register for the meet on the team 's website, https://www.gomotionapp.com/team/ohbsc/page/home. Click on the "Events" tab. From there look under "Team Events" and you'll see the invitational listed.

Next to the meets' name, you'll see a pink "Attend/Decline" button. Click on that button and let the coaches know if your child will be participating or not. This is EXTREMELY important as we need to know attendees for making relays!

You should NOT pick your child's meet events! Please allow the coaches to do this! Just let the coaches know which days you can attend!

3. TEAM FUNDRAISER- KISERS BBQ:

Kisers BBQ Restaurat has graciously selected Bobcat Swim Club as the non-profit organization for the month of October! Every Tuesday this month 5% of the total amount of sales will be donated to BSC! This applies to all dine-in, carryout, and delivery orders! So head to Kisers tomorrow for some GREAT food that benefits your belly and the team!!!

 

4. PARENT ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITY: MEETAPALOOZA:

Did you see that charcuterie board??? WOWZA!!! Fourteen families attended the first parent engagement activity! Parents Erin Watkins and Lora Snodgrass led a conversation about swim meets, volunteering, Meet Mobile, and more! Everyone walked away with strengthened connections- and that's the goal!

As you know we are tracking participation to determine the success of our strategic planning goals. So here are the participation numbers from the event:

Green: 38%

White: 11%

Black: 7%

Bronze: 20%

Silver: 12%

Gold: 54%

We're hoping to increase those participation levels at next month's event. Reserve Nov. 6 on your calendar! The theme is "Tea Time" with the conversation centered around USA Swimming's Motivational Time Standards and qualifying time standards for meets. Tea Time will be held during practices, so drop off your swimmer and then head upstairs to join in the fun!

 
 
5. PRE-COMP TEAM- SESSION 2 REGISTRATION CLOSES THIS WEEK:
 
This morning the registration portal for the next session of our Pre-Comp team opened! Registration will close on Oct. 19! 
 
The Bobcat SwimAmerica Pre-Competition team prepares young swimmers for competitive swimming by focusing on foundational skills taught in flexible small-group stations by qualified coaches. Swimmers will learn water safety for a lifetime of enjoying aquatic activities, and progress from basic skills to mastery of the four competitive strokes. Pre-Comp is for children ages 5 to 10 who are comfortable in the water, with any level of learn-to-swim experience. Swimmers practice twice a week, for seven-week sessions.    Pre-Comp swimmers do not compete in swim meets.
 
Session 2 will run Oct. 27- Dec. 18.    We will again offer two practice group options: MW and TTH 5:30-6:10pm.

6. AAU DIVING TEAM:
 
A new era is beginning in Athens! We are thrilled to announce the formation of an AAU Diving Team! The team will be led by Ohio University diver Anna Haluch.  She is from Hudson Ohio and is majoring in physical education and sport coaching while also pursuing a certificate in sports nutrition. She began diving her freshman year of high school. Before that she was a gymnast for seven years. In high school she was a three time state qualifier. She competed at the MAC championships last year. This summer she coached a learn to dive class and is very passionate about working with young divers!
 
Registration for this team is now open on the team's website. Registration will close Friday, Oct. 31 at 9:00 PM.
 
Practices will be held on Sundays from 2:00-4:00 PM at the OUAC. The season will run Nov. 2- April 26.

7. OHIO UNIVERSITY HOME MEET, OCTOBER 24-25:
 
The Ohio Universitiy Women's Swimming and Diving Teams will welcome the Unviversity of Buffalo to Athens on Oct. 24-25. Because of this, we will not have access to the pool for our practices. Instead, consider coming to the OUAC to cheer the Bobcats to victory! Friday's competition begins at 5:00 PM and Saturday's races start at 10:00 AM. Admission is FREE!
