Bobcat Bulletin 11/17/25
Bobcats,
I'd like to start this week's bulletin by thanking all of the volunteers who made this meet happen! The topic of this meet, Safe Sport, is crucial in protecting our youth athletes from abuse and this meet provides a vehicle for getting across vital information to parents and athletes. If you attended yesterday's training, you will need to log your attendance at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/QW97GGF. THIS IS A VITAL STEP IN OUR CLUB RECEIVING SAFE SPORT CERTIFICATION!
For the first time in the meet's history, a representative from USA Swimming's national office came to Athens to conduct a Safe Sport training! Over 100 parents attended the educational information session about abuse prevention and reporting. If you missed yesterday's training, you can still educate yourself by attending virtual classes hosted by USA Swimming.

1. SAFE SPORT- MEET RESULTS:
Attached you will find our team's results. Looking at the IMPROV column is important, but it is not the only set of data that athletes and coaches track. Sometimes races result in best times and that's worth celebrating, but sometimes things beyond the numbers deserve celebrating, too: swimming a legal race for the first time, nailing a flipturn with underwater dolphin kicks, splitting a race well, etc. As long as the effort and technique are there, best times will happen!
Speaking of nailing technique, two Bobcats had great racing this weekend that need to be celebrated- Auggie Cornish and Zaid Hassanin.
Auggie dropped almost 5 seconds in his 25 Breast race and broke the team's 8U Boys team record in that event. The previous record was held by Madden Kiser.
Zaid dropped over 33 seconds during the meet! That was more of an improvement than any other Bobcat! The biggest drop came from his 50 Fly race where he improved by over 22 seconds! Because of these performances, Zaid is the "Swimmer of the Meet". He'll receive a new BSC towel to celebrate his meet!
These big drops only happen with improved technique! So congratulations to the boys for working hard and getting those strokes just right!
2. PARENT PICK UP/ DROP OFF:
Speaking of safety, this is a reminder of Ohio University's Minors on Campus policy that states that youth 12 years and younger must be supervised by a parent/chaperone. Recently there have been swimmers dropped off early for practice and picked up late after practice. With the time change, darkness is coming sooner in the evening and we want to ensure that all of the kids are being monitored by an adult. Please know that this is not feasible for the coaching staff to do as they are busy before practice getting equipment set up and afrer practice they're cleaning things up. Thanks for ensuring that your child is safe!
3. BOBCAT SWIM CLUB FOOD DRIVE:
This time of year is always challenging for families in our area and this year the need is even greater! So, to support those struggling families, we will be hosting a food drive Nov 10-24. Canned goods and non-perishable items are welcome donations! You will see boxes on the pool deck for you to drop your items.
Be sure to place your donations in your training group's bin because the group with the most donations will be treated to an ice cream sundae bar! The current standings are as follows:
1st place- Gold
2nd place- Black
3rd place- Silver
4th place- Green
5th plance- Bronze and White
Please consider supporting our team's initiative to support our community!
