Our Mission

Our mission at Yoseikan Anderson is to develop strong minds and bodies, while preserving the teachings of Doctor Tsuyoshi Chitose (O-Sensei). Through practicing Chito-Ryu karate, we believe that the character of each individual can be improved. Respect, self discipline, courtesy, patience, and humility are some of the aspects of Chito-Ryu Karate that we strive to perfect.

While attempting to achieve thess goals, we will develop excellent training habits, technique and confidence that will last a lifetime.  Chito-Ryu is a lifelong endevour, one that will effect every aspect of daily life. We take this responsibilty seriously, and will do our best to achieve these goals.

Gichin Funakoshi said it best "The ultimate aim of karate lies neither in victory nor defeat, but in the perfection of the character of it's participants."

The SHOWA

The Showa is a poem authored by O'Sensei and spoken in unison at the conclusion of each class.

SHOWA

WARE, WARE, KARATE-DO O SHUGYO SURUMONOWA
TSUNENI BUSHIDO SESHIN O WASUREZU
WA TO NIN O MOTTE NASHI
SHOSHITE TSUTOMEREBA KANARAZU TASU

Originally written in Japanese, it is impossible to accurately translate into English as many Japanese words and phrases do not have a direct translation. The simple English translation written below is intended to provide the student with a starting point in which to begin to understand its essence. It is expected that through a lifetime of training, a deeper understanding of the Showa will be fostered.

We who study Karate-do
Should never forget the spirit of the warrior's way.
With peace, perseverance, and hard work,
We will not fail to reach our goal.
