TVA "High Point Team Award" winner!
Shooting for the Stars!
Corny and cliché? Yes, very. But there’s nothing wrong with that; this weekend, our swimmers had some pretty out-of-this-world swims. Our Team has shown yet another amazing team effort.
Tri Valley Aquatics achieved a “High Point Team Award – First Place” winning the group 2 team division at Zone 2 short course 2011Winter Championship (Championship was divided into two groups. Large teams and the rest)
This weekend was proof of how important a team is, even in a more individual sport like swimming. While our swimmers performed well on an individual level, the big points came out of the relays, which score double points. The 9-10 girls (Amber Fornoles, Courtney Lau, Tessie Scavone, Claire Suen) placed third in their medley relay and second in their free relay and the 15-18 girls (Marissa Bergh, Maria Carlson, Stephanie Doi, Natalie Tang) placed sixth in their medley and fourth in their freestyle. On the boys’ side, the 9-10 team (Mattias Blanco, Chris Jhong, Tyler Lu, Cole Reznick) placed third in both the relays; the 11-12 medley came fourth (Connor Daly, Jason Lau, Timmy Lau, JJ Nelson) and squeezed into eighth in the free relay (Daly, J. Lau, T. Lau, Jordan Wagner). The 13-14 boys (Jonathan Feldman, Thomas Gjerde, Jordan Reznick, Caleb Wagner) also pulled out an eighth place score in the free relay and the 15-18 boys medley (Chris Dotson, Devin Shepodd, Kyle Shepodd, Julian Wagner) came in sixth.
Individually scoring swimmers were Hannah Bergh, Marissa Bergh, Maria Carlson, Connor Daly, Stephanie Doi, Chris Dotson, Chris Jhong, Courtney Lau, Jason Lau, Tyler Lu, Cole Reznick, Tessie Scavone, Claire Suen, Natalie Tang, Julian Wagner, Sydney Wagner, and Andrew Wang.
Chris Jhong (9-10) showed us all how to represent the team as he rocketed past the competition to win his age group high-point award. He won four of his seven events and finished in the top four for his other three races. Marissa Bergh (15-16) was fifth in her age group and Chris Dotson (17-18) was sixth, having competed only one day of the meet.
This weekend was the qualifying meet for the Zones All-Star Meet, which takes place at the beginning of March. The top eight swimmers from each gender and age group (8-under through 13-14) are selected from Zone 2 to compete with the other four zones’ swimmers based on their performance this weekend. While the team’s roster has yet to be announced, with such high-scoring performances, a couple of our swimmers are sure to have made the all-star cut!
Congratulations to all the swimmers who swam well this weekend, and keep practicing hard to those who didn’t; I can’t wait to see how we all do at the meet coming up at the end of the month! (Make sure you guys are all signed up – it’s your last chance to qualify for spring JO’s!)
