 2011 Long Course Junior Olympics

Four long days of trials and finals and over 100 swims later, Tri Valley Aquatics can say that the Junior Olympics was a success! Including relay lead-off splits, our swimmers put up 47 best times – which means a whole lot of new team records! Congratulations to all of our swimmers, but especially those who had a “perfect” meet – all best times: Connor Daly, Stephanie Doi, Chris Fernainy, Tyler Lu, Cole Reznick, Jordan Reznick, and Claire Suen. It takes a lot of hard work to swim just one best time, and these swimmers delivered personal records all weekend!

Finalists this year were Hannah Bergh (400 Free), Marissa Bergh (100, 200 Free; 200 Back), Chris Jhong (50 Breast), Jason Lau (400 IM), and Natalie Tang (400 Free, 200 IM). While not everyone got a chance to swim in finals, most of our swimmers participated in a few relays. Our 15-18 girls swam all 5 relays, placing 5th or higher in each. The 11-12, 13-14, and 15-18 boys all swam relays as well, establishing themselves on the Tri Valley Aquatics record board with some strong times. Combining our individual points with our huge relay points, Tri Valley Aquatics placed 25th as a team!

Congratulations again to all of our qualifiers! Now that the Junior Olympics are over, we all know what that means: it’s time to get back in the pool to get ready for Far Westerns! If you’re not going to Far Westerns, there’s the “Last Splash” meet to prepare for – one last chance to get in some long course times!

If you have one or more Western Zone Consideration time (WZCT – look for them online!) you are eligible to apply for the Western Zones or North American Challenge Cup all-star meets. Pacific Swimming picks 8 swimmers from each age group and gender to go to either Clovis or Puerto Vallarta, Mexico this year, so it’s an opportunity you don’t want to miss! Print out applications online and mail them in soon!

We’re reaching the last leg of our 2011 long course season. Keep working hard so that we can put up some great swims at our last meets!
