Zone 2 Championships
TVA at Zone 2 Championships, 2012
WOW! This past weekend was absolutely CRAZY for our Tri Valley Aquatics swimmers! From Amber Fornoles starting the meet off right with an awesome singing of the national anthem to our relays ending the weekend with some stellar swims, TVA came, we swam, and we did absolutely AWESOME! With just 28 swimmers at the meet, we still managed to take 7th place as a team overall, squeezing out several of the larger teams in the area.
Congratulations to everyone who took part in the meet this past weekend! There were tons of best times and great races both days; swimmers who took top 8 spots in their individual events included Maria Carlson (50 Free, 100 Breast), Stephanie Doi (50, 100 Free), Sydney Lu (25 Breast), Arjun Nimmakayala (50 Free, 25 Fly), Claire Suen (100, 200 Free; 50 Back, 50 Breast, 100 IM), and Natalie Tang (100, 200 Free). Stephanie Doi was our big scorer with 75 total points throughout the weekend, while both Devin and Kyle Shepodd scored over 40 points each.
While individual events were big for us, our relays (which score double points) were even better! Both the 13-14 and 15-18 boys took 5th in both their 200 Free and 200 Medley relays; the 15-18 girls took 2nd in the 200 Medley; the 11-12 girls were 6th in the 200 Free; and the 11-12 boys were 8th in the 200 Free relay.
As evidenced by our outstanding relays, swimming is just as much a team sport as an individual sport, and this weekend was a wonderful opportunity to really learn the meaning of the word “team”. I, personally, found out just how much my team loves me, and I’d like to take a moment to send a special shout-out to…pretty much all of the Gold and Senior Group…who demonstrated their love by pranking me into thinking I’d been DQ’ed in my 100 Free…for five different things. Thanks, guys.
All that being said, I just want to congratulate all our swimmers again on a great weekend. We’re almost to the home stretch of our season – there’s just one more meet until JO’s – so keep it strong, guys!
See you at the pool!
