TVA in Open Water Competition.

As many of you already know, last weekend our Gold and Senior groups participated in the Lake Del Valle open water races hosted by Tri Valley Masters. But what you may not know is that our swimmers represented Tri Valley Aquatics with 11 medals in 3 events!

On Saturday, Maria Carlson, Natalie Tang, Julian Wagner, and (Coach) Sydney Wagner started the weekend off right with the longest open water swim that any of our age groupers have ever participated in: the 5K. It was an amazing achievement, both physically and mentally - they were in the water for over an hour racing! Julian Wagner won his age group, while Maria and Natalie took second and third in their respective age groups.

The next day, Nate Borchers, Thomas Gjerde, Jason Lau, and Jordan Reznick joined the party, Jason racing the .75 mile swim and Nate, Thomas, and Jordan participating in both the .75 mile and the 2.5K races. In the shorter race, Thomas and Jason took second and third in the 13-14 age group while Nate took home a gold medal for the 15-16 boys and Natalie, Maria, and Julian took first, second, and third in their respective age groups on their second day of competition. In their second swims of the day, Julian and Nate took second and third in the 2.5 K race!

Congratulations to all of our open water swimmers! Great job, and way to represent the team!

P.S. If you’ve ever wondered if your coaches really do swim, Coach Mary was in the lake on Saturday racing the 10K! When you’re swimming through that main set, wondering how a coach can possibly give you a set that they couldn’t even do, just think of her third-place finish in a race that took almost three whole hours!
