Late September Update

BISC Late September Update

We are all looking forward to having BISC new head Coach Monique Shelton on deck soon. She stopped by and did a Q & A with the kids last week. The swimmers at those practices got to ask her questions to get to know her. She was welcomed with excitement, handshakes & high fives.  She was able to see that most practices are running full.  Congratulations to the September attendance winners (names posted on lobby bulletin board). On BISC we stress that to feel a sense of belonging, participation & involvement are key! In upcoming October practices, we will continue to stress good stroke technique, continue learning legal strokes and fast efficient turns while also adding endurance as a focus point.

Upcoming:

Fall Classic Meet: We have 61 swimmers attending this meet in Snohomish. When the meet timeline is available it will go on our meet information page. Ferries can be tricky. Please plan accordingly and remember there may be a different ferry schedule for Sunday. Warm up is important to ensure good performances. If you will arrive late, textlate, text Coach Leilani at 206-887-8079.

Pumpkin 500 & Bob Miller Sprint/Distance Meets: These meets are just around the corner. We need all hands on deck to ensure a good meet experience. Sign up to volunteer by clicking on the “job signup” button. Remember that each family is expected to volunteer as part of team participation.Thank you in advance for making us look good. Part of what makes the Pumpkin 500 meet fun are the pumpkin pies and pumpkin treats that swimmers bring in. Pies go to the winners of each age group and treats are shared by participants. All participating swimmers get a pumpkin 500 cap.  The Bob Miller sprint/distance meet will bring teams from all over. There will be ribbons and heat winner ducks for that meet. Both of these meets can only happen with your support and involvement. Thank you in advance for stepping up and volunteering!!

Swim-a-thon: This isThis i our main fundraiser.  It will happen during our Saturday practice time October 28th and the swimmers will have 1 hour to swim as many laps as possible. Money is generated with swimmers having people pledge an amount for the laps they swim. Bronze swimmers who can’t come Saturday will swim their hour on Friday the 27th. We will need help counting the swimmers' laps at this event. We encourage you to count your swimmer’s laps if possible. Information was sent out via email & hard copies in your swimmer’s folder. There are very cool prizes for top funds raised. See event page for more info. Thank you Anna Britt and Marina Rich: Event administrators.

Welcome to our new swimmers and their families: Isabelle Britt, Lucas Fort, Jay Kowren, Cohen Maass, Kate Pocekovic(Bronze), Olivia Tebo & Annaleis Visser (Silver), Abby Cimprich & Oren Screen (Copper)  Bennett Atchison & Louis McKibbin(Gold).

Team shirts: Each swimmer will receive a team shirt for the season on October 6th with the quote, “Happy swimmers are fast swimmers” on the back. They all should have already received a swim cap in their swim folder. These items, the team banquet & awards, and other social events are paid for with your $20 social fee to the BISC Board. Thanks for sending those funds with a check to BISC Boosters. .

USA Swim Registration for the 2023-2024 season: A link will be sent for you to re-register your swimmer to keep their USA swim membership current as theirs expires in December. Each team had their own special link so please wait to do this until you get the link. Stay tuned & watch for it in a team email.

September Highlights:

Parent Meeting:It was great to see 24 of you in person at the parent meeting and others virtually online. For the third of you that could not make it; meet rubrics, team uniforms, motivational times, character development through swimming and Swim-a-thon information were all discussed and handouts given and put in your swimmers folders. BISC Booster board members were also introduced. Coach Monique will be here around October 16th and we will set up another all team meeting where you can meet her and hear her plan for the future of BISC. A date for this is still to be determined.

BLUE & GOLD meet: We had great swimmer participation for our Blue & Gold intersquad meet (69 swimmers)! It was so nice to have our first meet of the season be the entire team and at our own home pool. Unfortunately the scoreboard was not operational. Many hours went into trying to fix it to no avail. The touch pads and computers got results posted quickly, though. Special shout out to Missy Rehder & Melissa Jasperson who were our meet directors, Julee Longridge Meet Referee, Shanna Majors: AO, Dale McVey equipment manager and all the officials, timers and set up crew.  With the Pot Luck after the meet I think we lost part of the take down crew to the food feast. Thank you to those who helped get it done. We are responsible for putting the pool back to its original state after our competitions, it’s an important volunteer job and there are lists of what must be done. The Blue team ended up narrowly winning  by 29 points. Special shout out to the team leaders (Robbie & Ediie Nakhuda for Blue team and Piper and Sara Majors for the Gold team). The swimmers were fast with many achieving personal best times and for some it was their first meet experience.  We had a great weather day for the PotLuck and the kids enjoyed some team bonding dances on the grass. It was a hopeful, energetic start to the new 2023-2024 season.
