BISC October Update

Upcoming:

Two weeks in and I (Coach Monique) have observed all the groups, one swim meet and a very successful Swim-A-thon. Well done BISC!!!! I am compiling my thoughts and going into November we hope to continue to “clean” some things up and organize ourselves for the new year. Can you believe it's going to be 2024? The Paris Olympics are right around the corner and the world will be excited about swimming.

Bob Miller Sprint/Distance Meet (Ferry Boat Classic):

(Home) 74 BISC swimmers are signed up to race! We have teams coming from all over our LSC. Thank you to those who have already signed up to volunteer. We still need volunteers to time (no experience needed), chaperone( no experience needed), meet announce (smooth voice is an asset not a requirement (training provided) and officials (certification needed).Thank you BISC Meet directors: Missy Rehder & Melissa Jasperson for organizing. We love to race in our home pool. Thank you all for helping us host a fabulous meet. It takes us all working together to pull it off.

Nov. AGI Meet: (Snohomish)

Gold qualifying times are needed to enter, meaning not all swimmers can participate in this meet. If they have one entry time they can enter 2 bonus events. Times they can enter will be in black, the ones in red would need to be bonus events.

Fall Divisionals

First weekend in December at KCAC. This meet is for all 10 & unders. 11 and older who have achieved championship times may not swim in this meet, everyone else can. It’s a great chance to swim in the best pool in a 4 state area. 10 & unders will swim a pentathlon (5 events) 11 & older can do 6 events over 2 different days.

Age Group Champs & Sr. Champs:

Both require qualifying times. If your swimmer does not have an individual time but would like to be considered for a relay put that in the notes section when committing to the meet.

BISC Welcomes new swimmers and their families: Desmond Shutt (Silver group), Zoe McFarland (Bronze)

USA Swim Registration for the 2023-2024 season: A link has been sent for you to re-register your swimmer to keep their USA swim membership current if theirs expires December 31st, 2023. Each team had their own special link. It was sent to you on 10/28/23. Use this link: Register for USA Swimming Now

Thanksgiving: NO BISC practices on Thanksgiving day. We hope you will spend the day with loved ones around a full table. For those looking for a physical activity challenge consider

signing up for the Helpline House Turkey Trot at Battle point park. It supports those in need in Our local community has both a 5K and a 1 mile fun run. I hear some people show up in costume to run. Check it out: helplinehouse.org.

Practices Friday & Saturday will be in the morning and adjusted slightly, check on the calendar for your swimmer’s group swim times as we are still figuring that out with pool management.

October Highlights:

October Attendance Winners: coming soon

Fall Classic at the Snohomish Aquatic Center went well despite frustrations with the ferry schedule causing some swimmers to miss warm ups. Several swimmers picked up Champs qualifying times and others posted personal best times. Thank you to those who helped officiate and time at the meet and to our swimmers for leaving our seating area clean. We have a great reputation in our LSC because of that. We had 61 swimmers attend. There were no awards at this meet aside from their amazing swim times.

Pumpkin 500: 58 BISC swimmers took on this challenge. Heat winners got pumpkin treats. Thanks to all who brought in the delicious awards. Congratulations go to winners per age

group: Sota Inoue (15 & Older) Lily Rehder & Leland Hilgers (13&14) Harper Rich & Wyatt Majors (11&12) Avery Britt & Louis McKibbon (9&10) JJ Borovsky & Spencer Slowik (8 & under) and all who participated. Many swimmers dropped significant time. Those who completed their first ever 500 got a special Blow Pop treat. 20 of the swimmers were 10 & under!~Yes, we can do hard things!

Swim-A-Thon: Thank you to all who participated, our swim-a-thon was a success! Saturday’s swimmers were amazing. It was great to see all the lanes in Ray full of swimmers from 10am-2pm. Each group had 1 hour to see how many laps of the pool they could swim. Together they managed to swim 172,600 yards or 104.6 swimmer miles! 84 swimmers contributed to the swim-a-thon and 55 swimmers swam laps. We surpassed our fundraising goal which is amazing! Special shout out to Anna Britt & Marina Rich for organizing this event. Prizes will be awarded after Nov. 3rd once all monies have been collected. There is still time to get your final donations in. Go Bluefins!

A Special Thank you to Coach Leilani and Coach Katherine for being the glue and the fire for this team. They have given of themselves in a way that is not the norm in this industry. This team is very fortunate to have them and I am happy to have them with me on this staff!!!!

Lets have a great month, put in some hard work and give thanks for the opportunity to do so…..

Cheers

Monique and your Coaching Staff
