Championship Highlights in July

LEILANI TONSMANN

What a way to end the season………great racing, fast swims, best times, new cuts and now the Olympics!!!! I hope everyone is getting a chance to watch the greatest in our sport and learn some things along the way.  It has 100% distracted me from finishing this re-cap.

Congratulations BISC Swimmers and Families on a very successful season.  We wrapped up our LC season with Senior & Age Group Champs over the course of the last two weeks.

These meets were long (exceptionally so), and tested every bit of our fabric.  We had great results in both meets and it set us up nicely for this next season.

96% of our swimmers had at least one best time and 67% earned 2nd swims in their events. That is an amazing stat !!!!!

 Lessons learned in big meets:

  * All swims matter.

  • Each point counts.

  • Every relay member brings heat and ¼ of the sum. (not to mention, double points).

  • Managing personal resources & emotions over 3 & 4 day meets is critical and hard.

If the meet organizers broke out the meet results in small, medium and large teams (like they do in California) then we would have been at the top at Age Group Champs for sure and definitely in the top 3 at Seniors.  We made our mark at these meets and gained traction every time we stepped up to compete.

As Coaches, we will circle back with the athletes when we return to the pool to celebrate and to discuss the X’s and O’s of the season (and of course hand out ribbons and medals).  We are very proud of this group of athletes and how they have risen up to the challenges presented over the course of this year.

Now onto the good stuff.......

Senior Champs Highlights

13th place out of 28 teams in PNW. Great racing all around and lessons to bring back to training.  Well done Seniors!

Racers:

Robbie Nakhuda - Robbie was the high point winner for the BISC Seniors meet, grabbing 28 points and also nabbing a Futures Cut on opening day in his 50 Free lead off for the relay.  He was just 4/10 off the Junior National cut in that event.  Next time buddy. He swam 400IM, 100 Breast, 50 Free, 100 Fly, 100 Free, 200 Fly and all 4 relays that dropped from their entered times.  Super solid meet and great way to set up next season.

Eddie Nakhuda - Eddie bettered his Sectional times and added some new sectional times.  He made finals in the 50 free, 100 back, 400 Free and was on all 4 of the relays. He dropped time in the 100 back, 100 Breast and 50 Free. Again, setting up nicely for this next season.

Rylee Dupont - At her first Senior champs, grabbed a few swims before her next meet. She was on two relays, hitting her best split on her 50 free, dropping time in her 100 back along the way.  This was the primer for what was to come at Age Group :).

Sota Inoue - Sota had a Mega 400 IM, swim dropping 4.5 seconds and making finals. He also dropped time in his 200 back by 2 seconds and 200 IM another second. He was on all four relays that dropped time as well.  Way to be a team player and lets get it in the fall.

Sara Kreigh - Coming off of a golf season and late Summer push, did a nice job with her races.  We are working through some things to get back on track.  She punched her way through this meet every step of the way and is ready for the new season. She swam 2 relays, 200 free, 100 back, 50 free, 100 fly and 100 free. Lets get it in 24/25!

Ian Letson - Bigs swims for Ian, most notably his 400 IM with 12 second drop and a sectional cut, followed closely by his 1500 with a 10 second drop and just missing another sectional time.  He also contributed on all three relay teams. Really big swims for Ian.

Wyatt Majors - First Sr Champs meet and swims best 200 Breast by 2.6 seconds and was on the 200 Medley Relay that dropped time as well. Cheers Wyatt!

Lily Rehder - Hitting a swim or two before age group, she nabbed a best time in the 100 breast and swam on two relays.  This was a primer for the next meet.

Olivia Longridge - Just sneaking into this meet for the first time with her swims the week before, she dropped time in her 100 Back by by 1.2 seconds and 6.4 seconds in her bonus event 100 Breast

Age Group Champs Highlights

11th place overall out of 32 teams, just missing the top 10. (next year team). New Sectional cuts for Wyatt Livingston and first time Sectional cuts for Kyler Boydon and Tessa Hurguy. One of the things that made us the most proud was that we had relays in all age brackets and in both genders, so 20 in all.  Showing more depth and roundedness to the team.  Now it's time to build on that.

High Point scorers for our team were Rylee DuPont with 90 points with William Browning a close second with 86.5 leading the boys.  Wyatt Livingston and Tessa Hurguy right behind them. Way to go Team!!!!!!

Racers:

JJ Borovsky -  JJ came and helped out her 10 and under teammates on two relays.  These girls did a great job. Way to go JJ!

Kyler Boydon - Kyler had a standout meet.  He was ready to go a week out from this meet.  Kyler dropped time in his 100 free, 50 free, and 100 fly, where he made his first Sectional Cut dropping over 5 seconds from last year.  He also added great value to 4 different relay teams.  Great work Kyler!

Avery Britt - Avery swam best times in the 50 back, 50 free, and 100 free. She placed 9th in the 50 free and swam on 2 relays for the team.  You did it!

William Browning - Knocked it out of the park at this meet.  William really hit his stride here and was the 2nd highest scorer of the team with 86.5 points. He dropped time in every event: 50 back, 200 fly, 50 free, 50 fly, 100 fly, 400IM and 4 relays.  He achieved 3 different zone times along the way.  What a meet William, congrats!

Nora Corelis - Nora swam on 3 relays over the cours of 3 days for BISC, 2 of those relays dropped time from their entered time. Nora swam best times on those relays.  Thank you for your commitment to your team!

Rylee DuPont - Massive schedule, great swims and High point on the girls side of things for our team.  She literally dropped time in every race: 50 back, 100 free, 50 free, 50 fly, 100 breast, 50 breast, and all 4 relays. Finals swims each night, super tough schedule and managed it well.  Way to go Rylee!

Jonathan Fort - At his first champs meet and swimming a best time in the 100 Breast by 5 seconds. He was also in two relays. Both of those relays dropped time. Super Swims Jonathan!

Cait Herten - Caits first Champs meet and was on the 10 and under girls relay. Thanks for being a team player and helping out your 10 and under crew.

If you happen to run into Rylee DuPont or Wyatt Livingston in the next few days, wish them luck, as they will head off to Idaho next week to represent BISC/PNS for Western Zones.  Their work is not quite done yet and we wish them well on their big adventure.

We are all looking forward to some rest and a re-set.  Thank you to the families/volunteers who gave of their time over the course of the season and these two marathon meets, it can’t be done without you. Enjoy your time away and be ready to hit it hard when we return. We will be sending equipment requirements soon, as well as setting up some meeting times for late August. For now, we are away from our desks.

Reminder: Please check the schedule for our modified swimming schedule for August.

When we get rockin in the Fall, we will have the same schedule we had last year all the way through March!

TBD on what our schedule will look like after 3/25/25.  That said, we will have plenty of pool time and other creative ways I can challenge the athletes into tip top racing shape :).

This is not a COVID shut down, or massively reduced time/space, or a one to a lane thing that we all experienced in 2020.  Despite rumors (which never have all the information), and since no one has asked me directly, I will tell you here:  We are full steam ahead.  We are not stopping this locomotive.  It is squarely on the tracks and rollin, rollin, rollin.  I plan to address this topic during our season orientation meetings and can answer questions anytime.

Cheers

Your BISC Coaching Staff!
