November Update

LEILANI TONSMANN

Coaches Corner:   “ Nothing works unless you do.” - Maya Angelou

This quote is on every swimmer’s Team Shirt this year. (Thank you BISC Boosters) It is a reminder that hard work is the key to achieving success.

We ask our swimmers to work hard in practice / school / in anything they do, so they can create opportunities for themselves and our team. We don’t wish for things to happen, we put in the work to make them happen. Attendance is critical.  “Showing up” is key. This is where/when the work gets done. .  We ask swim families to work hard by volunteering at meets and serve in  Board positions or become officials. BISC coaches work at putting together challenging & fun practices so our swimmers have a successful season. To be the best team we can be, everyone on BISC needs to participate and do their best work. In doing so, we create an environment where success is inevitable. Let’s keep leaning into the hard work and make the 2024-2025 season the best one yet.

Highlights:

Pumpkin 500

67 BISC swimmers participated (91%) and 14 swimmers swam the 500 for the first time! That's impressive! The treat table was full of goodies to nibble on after racing and there were 8 Pumpkin Pie winners for their age groups who got to take one home:

8 & Under: Elinor & Calder Brelsford-LaBadie

9 & 10: Emma Pocekovic & Jonathan Fort

11&12: Fiona Livingston & William Browning

13 & Older: Tessa Hurguy & Wyatt Livingston.

Many swimmers saw huge time drops along with improvements in their fitness and the technical aspects of their strokes.

Bob Miller Sprint / Distance Meet:

8 teams and over 400 swimmers competed at our first home hosted meet of the season. We are so thankful to have all hands on deck with a stellar volunteer crew of officials, timers, hospitality, meet set-up & tear down etc. Over 60 of our families worked at the meet (81%), some covering multiple sessions. Way to go BISC, it certainly takes a village.  We were also grateful for BAM swimmers and additional volunteers from other teams who stepped in to fill key roles.

Special Thanks to Elli Koskella our volunteer coordinator, RJ Hilgers our Meet Director, Julee Longridge our Meet Referee and Shanna Majors our AO.

It takes so many volunteers working together to host a home meet. These meets  benefit not only our team, but our whole community. To all of you who spent time volunteering at our meet, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!  It was fantastic as always, and we had tons of positive feedback.

All our swimmers swam so well (having at least one personal best time). The ribbons were big & beautiful. Wyatt Livingston took home an amazing, handcrafted, one of a kind, ferry boat trophy as the Boys High Point winner.  The Ferry Trophies were built by Avery Britt’s Grandfather.  Thank You!!!!!. BISC was 2nd overall with 91% of our team competing. Swimmers placing in the top 3 of their events at this meet were: William Browning, Kyler Boydon, Rylee DuPont, Jonathan Fort, Leland Hilgers, Tessa Hurguy, Sota Inoue, Surya Jain, Jay Kowren, Ian Letson, Fiona Livingston, Wyatt Livingston, Olivia Longridge, Hayden Ludwig, Wyatt Majors, Louis McKibbin, Aria Michael, Harper Rich, Bradley Roloff, Desmond Shutt, and Spencer Slowik,  Two swims from the weekend made it into the Top 10 USA Swimming rankings. Tessa Hurguy’s 1650 FR was ranked  #1 in the nation for 13 year olds Girls and Wyatt Livingston’s 1650 FR was ranked #7 in the nation among 14 year old Boys. There are not many meets where the 1650 is offered so we are proud to host a meet that offers the longer swims and also provides athletes that will race those distances.

TEAM T-SHIRTS ARE IN: and were distributed at Saturday's practice. If your swimmer was absent they will get one at their next practice. Remember, we wear our team gear with pride to all competitions. Sectional swimmers received their swag earned (team warm ups) for making a national level meet as well. We will be looking sharp at our upcoming competitions. Additional gear can be purchased at swimoutlet.com under teams (BISC).

Upcoming:

Welcome new swimmers: Noah Gerlach & Cyrah Carson to the Copper group.

Check the online calendar for Veteran’s Day swim times.

AGI meet sign ups are done.(85% of eligible swimmers attending.)

Get out and Get sponsors for our swim challenge Nov. 15th This  will help BISC fundraise for the year. (All swimmers will spend 1 hour of their practice time to see how many lengths of the pool they can swim. Reach out to  friends, neighbors, family members and have them pledge $ for each length swum to fundraise for our team).

Plan which Championship meet your swimmer will attend in December: Divisionals (all comers), PNS 14U Champs(qualifiers) or Senior Champs (qualifiers).

USA Swimming Registration needs to be completed soon as it ends Dec. 31st, 2024. Please log into your USA Swimming account to complete that ASAP for the 2025 season. We want this completed by December, 1.  You will not be able to train or compete if this is not done.  We need to be in compliance
