MayBISC May & June News Update

Coaches Corner: Train, or remain the same. Champions aren’t made on race day, they are made in the weeks before, in the early mornings, in every hard set you choose to finish strong.  The end of July might feel far away but every practice between now and then is a brick you are laying in the foundation of your success.  It won’t be easy, but you are not here because its easy.  You are here because you are chasing something bigger.  Show up, work hard, trust the process and when July comes, you will be ready……you may even surprise yourself.

Meet Highlights:

May Flowers: 5/2-5/4: 56 swimmers attended their first LC  meet at KCAC, the premier swim facility in the PNW. LC warm ups are challenging with 8 lanes and hundreds of swimmers to warm up but our swimmers took it in stride. The first long course meet is fun because swimmers usually have improved over the course of the year so time drops were in the double digit range for most who attended. Congratulations to Tessa Hurguy, Surya Jain event champions in the 200 IM, Fiona Livingston & Wyatt Majors event Champions in the  400 IM & 200 Breast, Wyatt Majors also event champion in the 200 Back, Louis McKibbin event champion 200 Fly, Aria Michael event champion 400 Free & 100 Fly. Ribbons were placed in swimmers folders. This meet created the starting point for the season and are looking forward to some great successes over the Summer.

BISC Banquet: 5/18: Fun annual event celebrating our 2024-2025 swim season. Thank you to our outgoing BOD President RJ Hilgers and our incoming President Nicole Williams for leading the brigade. Thank you Maggie Jain our Social Chair for organizing this year’s event with a cool photo booth, Italian Sodas, music & fun table decorations, Thank you to Anna Britt for the memorable slideshows and for all of you who attended and brought the amazing array of foods that helped make it special.

Sara Kriegh & Hayden Ludwig were our graduating seniors and we all felt their gratitude for what they learned from their BISC experience. Awards presented are listed on our website under the times & recognition tab, updates have been made to the sub minute club lists as well as the “500” club lists. Thank you. for voting in our new board members & celebrating the work of our outgoing members and volunteers.

Big Wave Decathlon: Travel Meet to Gresham, Oregon 5/24-5/25: 52 swimmers attended and celebrated swimming outdoors in a long course pool. Day 1: sunny & warm,  Day 2: cloudy & colder with some sunbreaks in the afternoon. Our swimmers came prepared with sunscreen, canopies & swim parkas and embraced their first outdoor experience of the season. There was a geese family that really wanted to swim at the meet that provided excitement on Day 2’s afternoon session. The swimmers showed true grit when the weather shifted and bundled up & kept swimming. Some brought home a new cut time, a best time and or a ducky for winning their heat. Anyone swimming a 200 or more were entered with a converted LCM time meaning the computer took your best yards time and applied a formula to that to create a LCM time. These converted times are notoriously fast and our swimmers stepped up and raced their best. If you are wondering why they were not reaching those times it was because they had not raced that event yet in a long course pool and  it was an estimation of how they would race. We felt the meet was well worth the drive down. We were impressed with how well the swimmers did in various weather conditions and staging themselves. “We can do hard things”. Swimming all 10 events to get their decathlon bag tag were: JJ Borovsky, Avery Britt, June Brown, Willam Browning, Rylee Dupont, Lena Everett, Jonathan Fort, Chloe Frederickson, Leland Hilgers,Tessa Hurguy, Surya Jain, Aiden Johnson, Fiona Livingston, Wyatt Livingston, Olivia Longridge, Wyatt Majors, Louis McKibbin, Aria Michael, Mika Moskin, Tej Pal, June Reeves, Lily Rehder, Skylar Richardson, Spencer Slowik, & Harrison Younger.
