LEILANI TONSMANN

Age Group Champs Re-Cap

Age Group Champs for 12 & unders was also at WKCAC and lasted 3 full days with prelims & finals each day. Swimming personal best times in the morning sessions was the goal to create the best chance to make it back for finals to earn points for BISC. For every best time in the morning sessions, a post-it note went up on the wall and as our design on the wall grew so did our swimmer’s confidence and our team points. BISC, with only 18 swimmers, finished in 11th place out of 31 teams narrowly missing a team trophy.

Special shout outs to: Winston Williams for winning a most memorable and exciting 50 Fr swim off and for swimming his final meet as a Bluefin, earning 24 points for his team. Moses Wang who swam his events and then flew to Germany that afternoon, Larry Killigrew who had been at a state baseball tournament who returned for the meet, Jay Kowren, Bailey LeMaster-Donahue & Emma Pocekovic whom made it possible to have several relays, and Skylar Richardson who swam in the morning and was in a musical back on Bainbridge that same afternoon. Congratulations as well to Surya Jain whose meet performances led to his selection for the PN Zone team which will compete in CA, August 9th & 10th . He will be with Bluefins: Spencer Slowik, William Browning, Aria Michael, Rylee DuPont, Tessa Hurguy & Wyatt Majors along with the PN’s best swimmers from other teams.

What were our key take aways? Every swim & every swimmer matters. When we show up as a full team we do well. Championship meets are long and exhausting and that is why we practice like we do. You can never be too prepared as we still had some DQ’s.(practice matters.) We thrived with great on deck positive energy (thank you 12 year olds for your leadership), BISC parent volunteer timers were awesome (thank you for hours of timing) and our officials (Kay & Travis) were incredible as always (Thank you for hours served) If you are interested in becoming an official please reach out we could always use more.
