Open Water Zones Re-Cap by Coach Monique
We are back from our long and hot weekend in Coeur d' Alene Idaho. Our season opener was Western Zone Open Water Championships and was a super strong way to start our season off. I am very proud of these athletes coming off a break and doing so well. We are making our mark in this type of event. Next year these races will be held in Maui HI in June. Time to train hard :). More details on this will be forthcoming.
These races open water races are hectic, and the athletes have to deal with many variables.....traffic, sun, wind, boat wakes and sea planes.......not to mention NO LANE LINES. We can do hard things!!!!
1.25K - This swim had both our swimmers' getting medals, Bennet Atchison was 2nd place for the Boys and Skylar Richardson getting 6th on the Girls side of things.
2.5K - On the Men's side, we had Wyatt Livingston and Wyatt Majors battling it out the whole way with Wyatt Livingston 2nd and Wyatt Majors 3rd by a fraction of a second. This was Wyatt Livingstons 2nd race of the day after doing his 5K. Bennett also doubled down and did this 2.5k swim as well and was 39th. Surya Jain had a strong swim and grabbed 22nd. On the Women's side of this race Rylee Du Pont had a really strong swim and placed 9th.
5K- This swim takes over an hour and our Bluefins did so well. On the Men's side we had Wyatt Livingston 13th and Leland Hilgers 37th. For the Women, we had Tessa Hurguy at 16th and Fiona Livingston 34th.
Weather could not have been better; the kids raced their hearts out and represented Bainbridge Island so well. Great work everyone!
Lets get ready to crush this season!
