WEST Weekly

Dear WEST Swim Folk,

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday. Thank you to everyone that made training a priority during this crucial time for swimming. I am very proud of the swimmer’s effort, this was one of our best holiday training periods that I’ve witnessed since joining WEST in 2010. There is a clear difference between the swimmers that trained over break and those that missed practices across all groups. This training period is not only crucial to success at SC Championships in March and LC Championships over the summer, but will significantly contribute to the swimmer’s year-over-year progression and long-term career.

Transitioning Group Move Ups

When we move swimmers up to a new training group, we anticipate a period of transition while they adjust to the new level. In addition to the intensity and expectations being higher, practice duration and frequency also increase. We typically like to start kids out on the same number of days per week and then increase as they adjust.

Pool Area Temperature

We appreciate everyone’s patience with the temperature of the building inside the pool area. We ran into complications with businesses shut down over the holidays and are waiting on parts to arrive to repair our HVAC unit. We apologize for the inconvenience and will have it back up and running as soon as possible.

January Challenge – This Weekend

Swimmers from Explore, Discover, Challenge, Accelerate and Senior will be participating at the January Challenge in Port Orchard this weekend. We have a hotel block at the Fairfield Inn & Suites Bremerton but you are welcome to stay wherever you find most convenient.

Winter Coloring Contest – Claim your picture if you want to keep it!

We will be taking down the coloring contest pictures so claim yours soon if you want to keep it.

Washington Open – CLOSED OUT

We were planning to attend the Washington Open January 12-15, but it turns out the meet has been overfilled and we were turned away. Select swimmers will compete in the 1000 Free on Thursday, January 12. Sorry for the inconvenience and short notice. We are researching other meet options and recommend that any swimmers that need to make cut times for the March Championship Meets should talk to their coach about swimming at the Winter Challenge Meet.

Pasco Meet Hotel Info

We have already set up the hotel room block for the Pasco Meet. We plan to stay at the Spring Hill Suites Kennewick for $110 per night. Click here for the reservation link.

Happy Swimming
