2017 Summer Travel Meets

We are looking forward to summer and there are many great meet opportunities that involve traveling. While these meets are all essentially optional, travel meets are great team bonding experiences and contribute greatly to each individual swimmer achieving the next level (so we feel they are really important). Travel meets force the swimmers to become more independent and gets them out of their comfort zone. We often see great individual growth coming back from important travel meets. We do not expect everyone to attend every meet. We expect each swimmer to attend their highest level qualified meet and prioritize on an individual basis after that. Have your swimmer speak to their coach about expectations or reach out to your group coach if you are concerned.

PNS & GSSA Travel Funding Reimbursements
Both PNS and GSSA will reimburse families for the expenses of traveling to high level meets. Swimmers must have a minimum of USA Swimming SCY Junior Bonus or LCM Futures cut to be eligible. Additonally, WEST has designated funds to help scholarship swimmers attend travel meets however they must also meet the PNS & GSSA eligibility requirements.

This meet is the primary travel meet for all Explore & Discover families. Any swimmers not attending Montana are encouraged to attend Pasco instead.

June 22-25: Firecracker Invite – Missoula, MT

June 27-July 1: Phillips 66 USA Nationals – University of Indiana, Indianapolis
This is the selection meet for the Fina World Championship team and Junior World Championship team. WEST has two swimmers currently qualified.

Aug 3-6: USA Swimming’s Futures Championships – Santa Clara, CA
This is our target championship meet for the LC Season for Senior Elite swimmers. Qualifying times are just slightly slower than Winter Junior Nationals and can be found here. Meet information hasn’t been posted yet, but when available, it will be posted here. We have several swimmers already qualified and many more on the cusp.

Note: WEST has already qualified both Men & Women Relays for this meet. We hope to bring “relay only” swimmers even if they do not qualify individually. “Relay Only” swimmers will time trial events each day and the experience alone of being at such a high-level meet can be helpful in progressing to the next level.
