WEST Weekly
Dear WESTonians,
I hope everyone had an enjoyable and safe 4th of July. I can’t believe the end of the season is nearly here! We still have several weeks of Summer Team and Lessons, so the pool will stay busy for a little while longer.
Lap swimmers - thanks for your patience this week
One of our neighboring teams had an emergency closure at their pool and we extended some training time during our normal lap swim times. We are sorry for any inconvenience this caused and appreciate everyone’s patience as we do our best to be good neighbors.
Schedule Changes This Week
With Age Group Seattle Open this Friday & Saturday, we will be making some minor changes to the schedule:
Friday: Explore, Discover, Challenge & Accelerate – NO PRACTICE / Senior & Sr Elite: 12-3pm @ WEST
Saturday: Explore, Discover, Challenge & Accelerate – NO PRACTICE / Senior & Sr Elite: 8-10:30am @ WEST
Intent to Return Survey – CLOSING THIS WEEK!
If you plan on returning to WEST next year, please take a moment to fill out a quick survey to let us know and gauge satisfaction. We hope to have next year’s registration packet sent out over the next few weeks.
WEST Swim Camps
Whether you are a Summer Team swimmer looking to stay in shape for the Community Meet (Sept 9), a high school swimmer looking to get an advantage for the new season, a pre-comp swimmer staying in the water before fall, or even a club team swimmer looking for a head start to the upcoming season – we have a NEW program for you! We are going to run 3 weeks of “Swim Camp” from Aug 7th-25th. Focus will be on technique and skill building and we will have two time offerings (12-1pm and 6:30-7:30pm). Registration will open soon and more info is available at the Front Desk.
WEST Olympian Kara Lynn Joyce releases new book!
Kara Lynn Joyce (whom we partnered with this last year for our “Olympian Clinics”) has shared with us access to her new book which will go on sale next month. Download a free copy before it goes on sale! Here is a link with a brief overview:
Developing a Championship Mindset takes a comprehensive approach to championship meet preparation, discussing all that goes into helping swimmers perform at their best at the end of the season. From nutrition and hydration to confidence and visualization, Kara walks swimmers through her tips and tricks for swimming fast at their big meets.
Community Swim Meet – Sat, Sept 9th
We will be holding our second annual Community Meet the Saturday after Labor Day. We hope to get involvement from our Summer Team kids, Masters and high school swimmers, and anyone else interested. You don’t HAVE to live in Mill Creek to participate, anyone local or connected (friends / family) to someone local is invited.
End of Season Dates
Explore, Discover, Challenge, Accelerate: July 27th
Senior, Sr Elite: Aug 2nd
Summer Team: Aug 5th
Lessons: Weekday Aug 18th / Weekend Aug 20th
Maintenance Closure – Aug 26th – Sept 8th
We are planning a two week maintenance closure so we can get some work done around the facility. We are planning to replace our pool lights with more efficient units and get some projects done that we can’t do during normal business operations (painting, tile work, pool gutter cleaning, deck pressure washing, etc.). Girls HS season will have already started, so we are securing pool time at McCollum Pool.
2017-18 Season Start Dates
Explore, Discover, Challenge, Accelerate: Tues, Sept 5th @ McCollum
Senior, Sr Elite: Mon, Aug 28th @ McCollum
Lessons & Pre-Comp: Mon, Sept 11th
Good luck to everyone competing this weekend! Happy swimming.
Coach Nick
