Fire @ WEST & Tomorrow's Schedule

Dear WEST Membership,

 

By now, most of you have heard about the fire we had on Sunday 11/26. Here is some more information on what happened, where we are currently at and our immediate course of action.

 

What happened: After noticing a burning smell coming from the vicinity of the boiler room, we shut the boiler off and monitored it closed. After 30min of appearing to clear, the lifeguard saw flames climbing the wall behind the boiler. He immediately grabbed a fire extinguisher and put it out, and the manager on duty called 911. The Fire Department arrived, building was evacuated and fire was put out.

 

Where we are now: We’ve placed a claim with our insurance and doing our best to expedite it’s processing. We are getting quotes on replacement boiler options, and remediation / repair costs. We can’t actually start any work however, we need to wait on the insurance company to inspect everything.

 

With pool temperatures dropping, we will not be able to run programs in the water tomorrow, and likely for the rest of the week. We have reached out to several neighboring pools and teams and are coming up with a solution to keep our swimmers in the water and on-track leading up to champs.

 

Lap swimmers are welcome to swim but the water will be roughly 73-74 degrees tomorrow. Wetsuits are welcome too.

 

Practice plan – We are still waiting to hear back from several pools to see if they can accommodate us. Stingray Swim Team has been very kind to offer to cut back their practice time to allow us to get lanespace at Mariner High School. We still need to formally communicate with the school district, but here is our tentative plan. We understand this short notice is far from ideal and appreciate everyone’s best effort to make it work.

Lessons: CANCELLED
