WEST Weekly
Good Morning WEST,
WEST is hopeful to reopen on Tuesday, May 5, however it is still unclear if our facility will be included in the state’s partial reopening. Whenever we are allowed to reopen, programs will likely not be allowed to resume right away. We have several different plans for different scenarios, but until we know more information, we can’t make any firm decisions. We are prepared to work with what we are given to maintain safety amongst our community. WEST is waiting to hear more information on how Washington will handle reopening businesses and will communicate our plan as it is developed.
Account Billing for May:
Month-to-Month Programs (Facility Memberships, Pre-Comp, Swim Fit): Members have been suspended and will not bill for May 1st. All accounts currently have a credit on them from April, if programs are resumed for a portion of May, we will apply your credit and resume normal billing June 1st.
Year-Round Club Team: billing will go through as scheduled for May 1st. Anyone who is facing financial hardship or is requesting a reduction of their training fees, please contact the office regarding your May 1st payment. If your request is received after 7pm Thursday, 4/30 your account will be credited for the following month.
Meet Cancellations
USA Swimming announced earlier this week that national meet events in July and early August, which include USA Swimming Sectionals, Futures and the Speedo Summer Championships will be canceled in order to refocus USA Swimming’s efforts on introducing a new series of summer events better tailored to the current environment. Read more here and take advantage of USA Swimming’s Coronavirus Resource Page if you haven’t already. The PNS Board has been regularly meeting and is working on how we will resume meets once allowed. WEST is fortunate to have two coaches represented on the PNS Board.
Fundraiser Challenge at WEST
For the entire month of May, WEST is going to hold a Duathlon Challenge to see how far we can each bike, run / walk. We are going to give prizes out for each of our 6 training groups, and have another category for non-athlete members (parents, lap swimmers, friends, family, etc.) so everyone can participate! Simultaneously, we are going to collect donations that will both help WEST offset operation costs and financial losses along with Food Lifeline, a non-profit that helps get food to those in need in our area. These donations will take the place of our Swim-A-Thon for this year and as a reminder, we have cancelled everyone’s Fundraising requirement, so all donations are OPTIONAL. More detailed information on the event will be sent out separately.
Clarification on Safe Sport Recognition
Thank you all for your patience. I’ve received many inquiries from parents regarding the Safe Sport Recognition Program, and Coach Emily has sent out a clarification email to our team parents that can be read here that answers many of the frequently asked questions. For more info regarding Safe Sport or any further questions, please contact Coach Emily.
Stay safe and smart out there. We’re all in this together.
Best,
WEST Coaching Staff
