Covid Case Update
In an effort to remain transparent, we want to provide everyone with an update following our member testing positive last week.
Our lifeguard that was on duty and potentially exposed received a negative covid test result yesterday. We have not received word of anyone else from water aerobics showing symptoms or testing positive.
We believe the case last week was isolated and contained. We have some reassurance that our Covid protocols are working and in our initial belief that the pool is not an easily transmittable place. However, we cannot let our guard down - the infection rate is increasing and with Halloween, activities moving indoors, and holidays around the corner, we all need to prepare for challenging times ahead.
We have received many emails from concerned parents and members in the past few days and we understand everyone is worried. We are doing the best we can and are continuing to take a cautious approach. Each person, or family, must make decisions for themselves in regard to what they feel safe with. We all understand there is risk present whenever we go into public and the pool is no exception.
We have taken extra steps to further protect ourselves and community against Covid. This past week we added containers to the lanes for mask storage and we've had reminder talks with all staff and athletes about the importance of each of us heightening our individual awareness and response.
Here is a quick reminder guide for what to do in difference scenarios:
Contact with or without symptoms:
If you, or someone in your household has been in contact with a confirmed case, regardless of showing symptoms or not, you must quarantine and isolate for 14 days OR obtain a negative test result before returning to West.
Symptoms without contact:
If you, or someone in your household show symptoms and haven't had contact with a confirmed or potential case, stay home until symptoms are gone and then wait an additional 72 hours after the symptoms are fully gone without the use of medication OR obtain a negative test result before returning to West.
Higher risk behavior:
If you, or anyone in your household has traveled via public transit, attended a mass gathering event, or any size event outside your household where social distancing and mask use is not enforced, you must either quarantine and isolate for 14 days OR obtain a negative test result before returning to West.
If we have a confirmed case within another group or program we will suspend that group or program for 14 days from the last time the infected person was present. If we have multiple simultaneous confirmed cases and the potential of exposure ranges across multiple groups and programs, we will not hesitate to close the facility to avoid an outbreak.
We each have a duty to protect ourselves, our community and each other. Be aware of how your decisions impact others and make good choices. Air on the side of caution, stay home and get tested when in doubt.
