WEST Weekly

Tim Senholtz

Hello WEST Families,

I hope everyone is enjoying the sun these past few days! WEST is busy prepping for spring and summer and we can’t wait to unroll our plans for our swimmers. Much of these plans are HEAVILY dependent on the pandemic and how our state is handling it’s reopening processes and we are working as quickly as we can to get that information out to you ACCURATELY. We thank you for your patience through this busy time! Until then, please enjoy these news items.

Dryland Reminder:

Dryland has started this week for our Explore, Embark, Disco and Challenge swimmers. To learn more about dryland and what they may need, please review the team information packet - but in summation:

Dryland encompasses any exercises & training done outside of the water. Swimmers should come prepared with shorts or sweats, and a t-shirt. Supportive footwear MUST be worn. (cross-trainers are best – no clogs, sandals, etc.). Swimmers will be exercising both indoors and outdoors (while complying with state safety guidelines) while wearing a mask.

Swimathon Recap:

Congratulation to our swimmers that swam their Swimathon this past weekend on either Saturday or Sunday! It’s amazing work in the water and we hope they had fun while challenging themselves to swim as far as they could! Special thank you to our swim parent Preston Van Hooser for supplying donuts for all of our WEST swimmers.

Swimathon season is NOT OVER though! Our team kiddos still have a month where they can share their love of the sport with friends, family, neighbors and local businesses - and hopefully they can in turn support by making a donation.  We will be collecting donations until Monday, May 24th, 2021. Any swimmers that do not make their minimum requirement will be billed the difference on June 1st. (Read our Team Information page regarding Fundraising here.)

This year, 5% of our fundraising will go directly back to our community by supporting Food Lifeline, a non profit organization whose mission is to eliminate hunger in Western Washington.

About Food Lifeline: Food Lifeline works to feed people today and solve hunger for tomorrow. We believe that nobody deserves to be hungry and that ending hunger in Western Washington is possible. By redirecting good food from manufacturers, farmers, grocery stores, and restaurants that might otherwise go to waste, we’re able to provide the equivalent of 116,000 meals every day for people who are experiencing hunger. And, by working regionally on advocacy efforts that shape policy and partnering with organizations that are addressing the needs of low-income families, we are building a movement that solves hunger for the future. Mind, Body, Sport Clinic #1 Completed with our Team Swimmers

WEST started our Mind, Body and Sport Clinic that will run throughout the season, and this week marked the completion of clinic #1. The purpose of these clinics is to connect the mental and physical aspect of the swimmer and the sport to create a stronger athlete and culture within WEST. Our coaches are very happy with the engagement of all the swimmers and we are looking forward to clinic #2. Our team parents should look forward to an email regarding when clinic #2 will happen. For any questions regarding the clinics, email Coach Emily at [email protected] or [email protected]

Happy Swimming everyone!
