BAM News: Waivers, BAMFest, Volunteers, and Meet Prep/Block Starts Practice

Bainbridge Aquatic Masters

Happy Wednesday, BAM!

Fun BAMFest facts:
  • Last year, 147 swimmers registered for BAMFest, our second largest BAMFest meet ever. (The largest was in 2010 with 157 swimmers.)
  • Of those 147 swimmers, 21 were swimming in their first-ever Masters meet. BAMFest has a reputation as welcoming meet for first-timers.
  • All but two swimmers left the meet with a ribbon because they placed top three in at least one event.
  • A whopping 87% of the swimmers left the meet with at least one first-place finish...
  • ... and yet 145 first-place ribbons were not awarded because there were no swimmers in the event/age group.
This week’s volunteer highlight focuses on the Pool Deck Volunteers. If you don’t have four hours to volunteer as a Timer, might you have two hours to volunteer on the pool deck during the meet? Upon arriving to the pool as a Pool Deck Volunteer, you will be directed to our Volunteer Lead, Andra, who will know where help is most needed and provide instructions for filling that need. Potential roles are Greeter (hang out in the lobby and welcome guests to the pool); Safety Marshal (remind swimmers “feet first entry only, please!” during warm up and in Nakata); Snack Bar (keep the snack bar neat and stocked); and Runners (carrying papers to/from the computer room). Interested? Sign up!

News for the week:
  • Our annual September ritual: time to sign your Park District liability waiver. Please check you email, and return the completed form to the front desk at the pool.
  • For the next three weeks, the 11:45 practice on Tuesdays will have two lanes reserved for meet prep/block starts. Look for these slots in the weekly SignUpGenius if you’d appreciate some specialized coaching.
  • Sign up to volunteer at BAMFest!
See you at the pool.
