BAM News: BAMFest Wrap Up

Bainbridge Aquatic Masters
Thank you, BAM.

BAMFest was fun.

This year we had:
135 swimmers,
90+ volunteers,
50 BAMmers swimming,
22 people swimming in their first-ever Masters meet,
7 officials, and
3 national records (go Charlotte Davis!).

The feedback I’m hearing from BAMFest is all positive. As BAMFest’s Meet Director, every year it is my personal mission to make this meet a memorable experience (in a good way!) for everyone who participates, whether as a swimmer, an official, a volunteer, a coach, or a spectator. This year, the meet worked. The atmosphere was positive and energetic, the volunteers were on the spot and ready to go (no announcements asking for timers!), the well-stocked snack bar kept everyone fueled and upbeat, and the hot tub, sauna, and steam room kept swimmers warmed up and ready to race. It was awesome.

Special thanks to the following BAMmers for their above-and-beyond contributions to the meet
Julee, our meet referee.
Kay, our starter and stroke-and-turn judge.
RJ, our administrative official. Due to a glitch in the computer room, he had to hand-enter every time into the computer – but he kept calm and somehow managed to get the results out promptly.
Dave C, for designing and building the new scoreboard (still a work in progress).
Andra, who was everywhere the day of the meet, ensuring we had volunteers where we needed them when we needed them.
Joyce P, our food coordinator who made sure swimmers, volunteers, and officials were fed and added special touches all over the facility to make it welcoming.
Kathleen S. I started working on BAMFest in March, and Kathleen was by my side from day one. One person can run a meet. Kathleen took the meet and turned it into a special event. Thank you.

For those of you who were not involved and aren’t interested? My apologies that BAMFest becomes such a dominant topic in the fall of every year. Thank you for bearing with us, watching from the water with what I hope is bemused detachment. We now return you to our regularly scheduled programming.

News for the week:
  • I’ve got nothing. I’m still recovering from BAMFest.
  • If you have any BAMFest photos you're happy to share, please send them to me at [email protected].
See you at the pool.
