FAMILY VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS
Remember that all Dolphin families are required to earn a minimum of four shift “points” per season. The success of our swim program directly depends on each family’s commitment to fulfill their shift requirements at the meets. Review the FAQs below, and visit www.dhgcdolphins.org to register for your shifts.
What are the Dolphin family shift requirements and penalties?
Each swim family must earn at least three shift points during the regular season, plus one for the practice meet, to earn the required four shift points for the season. Failure to fulfil the shift requirements could result in your swimmer(s) sitting out a meet. Please note that nannies and/or babysitters are not permitted to work meet shifts unless approved by the Swim Chair. If this will be an issue for you, please let our shift coordinators know prior to the first meet.
How do I obtain the four points needed to fulfill my shift requirements?
- Bullpen = 1 point -Time commitment: Half meet (Shift one = Events 1–26; Shift two = Events 27–60)
- Timer = 1 point - Time commitment: Half meet (Shift one = events 1–26; Shift two = Events 27–60)
- Ribbons = 1 point- Time commitment: Half meet (Shift one = events 1–26; Shift two = Events 27–60)
- Lead Bullpen Parent = 3 points (regular season meets only) - Time commitment: Full meet (until last swimmer in bullpen is finished); NOTE: this position is only available to parents with prior experience in the bullpen and MUST be approved by the shift chair before eligible to sign up.
How do I sign up for shifts?
Parents are responsible for signing up for the requisite number of shifts.
- Go to dhgcdolphins.org.
- After logging in, select the “Events” tab.
- Click “Job Sign-Up”
- Find the job for which you wish to register and click one of the numbers listed.
- Fill out your phone contact info and click “Signup.”
- Repeat steps 3–5 with each regular season meet for which you plan to work a shift.
What if I choose not to or forget to sign up for meet shifts?
Effective the Friday before each meet, Dolphin families who have not signed up for the requisite number of shifts will be assigned shifts by the shift coordinators, taking into account the members’ meet availability as indicated by the parents who have declared their swimmer for a meet on Team Unify.
If you have not declared your swimmer and are assigned a shift at a meet for which you are unavailable, you are responsible for finding a replacement to cover your assignment. Please let the shift coordinators know of any changes to the role assignments as soon as possible!
Failure to fulfil the shift requirements could result in your swimmer(s) sitting out a meet.
What if I am unable to make it to my scheduled shift?
In the event you are unable to work when you are scheduled, you are required to find a replacement by contacting and scheduling another Dolphin parent. Once you schedule a replacement, please notify the shift coordinators, Leah Humphries (404-358-6691 or [email protected]) or Kelly Brock (678-938-3302 or [email protected]).
My Junior Dolphin moved up after the season start; am I still required to earn shift points?
Junior Dolphin parents whose child moves up during regular season will have the following volunteer requirements:
· If your child moves up before June 5, you must work two shifts.
· If your child moves up from June 19 and after, you must work one shift.
Who can answer my questions about my shift commitments?
If you have any questions regarding your family’s shift requirements, shift roles/responsibilities, or how to use the sign-up on Team Unify, please contact one of the shift coordinators, Leah Humphries (404-358-6691 or [email protected]) or Kelly Brock (678-938-3302 or [email protected]).
An important note about enjoying alcoholic beverages during shifts:
While we appreciate that Dolphin swim meets are a social activity for parents in addition to being a competitive event for the children, we do ask that parents be mindful of beverage consumption while working shifts.
