Monica Barry Head Swim Coach - Kenwood

I swam for Kenwood from age 6-18, with my final meet at ANCC hosted CCSDA Champs in August, 1982. My coach that year was Tom Ugast, current CEO of NCap.  I  attended American University.  I coached all three of my children, Danny, Meghan and Timmy Barry, are graduates of the Kenwood program and all three were Kaptain Kenwoods!  2021 marks my 36th year coaching at Kenwood. I am looking forward to having a wonderful season.

 

Kali Becker Head Dive Coach - Manor

Kali is currently a collegiate athlete diving at UNC Chapel Hill where she is majoring in exercise science (physical therapy).  She attended Winston Churchill High School and graduated in 2015.  As a senior, she lead WCHS to team titles at Division I, Metros, 3A/4A Regional and state championship levels while also winning a Division I individual championship.  As a Jr. she won individual and team championships at Division I and 3A/4A regional meets and a Metros team title.  In 2012, she won individual and team titles in Division I, Metros and 3A/4A regional championships, was the 2012 individual state champion and in 2012 & 2013 she received the honor of being a first-team All-Met Athlete.   She competed for the Montgomery Dive Club and was a 9 time USA Diving East National Qualifier, a 6 time USA Diving National Qualifier, a 3 time USA Diving Regional Champion and in 2015, she was the AAU Diving 1meter National Champion.

Katie Beckett Head Swim Coach - Chevy Chase

Katie grew up swimming in MCSL, competitively in Potomac Valley Swimming, and was captain of the Churchill Bulldogs swim team. After high school, Katie went on to follow her other favorite sport, and ran track for Bucknell University, then returned to the DC area and has coached ever since. She has worked in CCSDA since 2004; beginning at Avenel then Columbia Country Club, and is excited to begin her second season with Chevy Chase. In the winter she coaches with  FINS Swimming  and Whitman HS. She recently moved back from  working abroad in Latin America and, when she's not at the pool, runs the Academy Programs at Kennedy High School.

Wynter Bramao Head Dive Coach - Chevy Chase Club

Wynter started swimming and diving with Chevy in 2010. She also has competed at the club level with Montgomery Dive Club for nine years and was a qualifier for USA Diving Junior Nationals. Wynter began as a junior coach for Chevy’s diving program and was the assistant dive coach last summer. She is currently diving D1 at Georgetown University.

Mimi Danzis Head Dive Coach - Chevy Chase

Mimi Danzis just completed her Sophomore year diving at Villanova University where she has been a part of the NCAA Big East Conference Championship winning team for two years. Born and raised in Bethesda, Maryland, Mimi graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in 2022. During her time at B-CC, she served as captain of the varsity swim and dive team for two years. In addition to high school diving she was a member of both the Montgomery Dive Club and Alexandria Dive Club. She is excited for her third year as a pirate!

Maneth Gravell Head Swim Coach - Argyle CC

Maneth has been coaching the Argyle Gators since 2003. During his 30 year coaching career, he has coached at Darnestown Swim and Racquet Club, Olney Mill Swim Club, Lakewood Country Club, and Argyle. Since he graduated from Villanova University in 1992, Maneth has also been a year-round coach for RMSC. Currently, he coaches the National Training Group at the Martin Luther King (MLK) Swim Center. Maneth is also the co-owner/administrator for the Montgomery Stroke and Turn Swim Clinic, which takes place at several pools across Montgomery County. When Maneth is not on deck coaching, he is a math teacher for MCPS at Shady Grove Middle School. Maneth has been teaching in MCPS for the past 25 years. Most importantly, Maneth is married to his wife Megan, and he is the proud father of five children: Kaitlin, Emily, Sean, Kylie, and Jack. His family currently resides in Ashton, Maryland. Ian Handerhan Head Swim Coach - Army Navy CC

An Army Navy lifer, Ian will begin his 30th year at Army Navy this Summer; starting in 1992 as a swimmer, then assistant coach, and now as head coach. He has helped and overseen the team grow from 75 swimmers to the 300+ member program it is today. He graduated from Gonzaga College HS ('04) and Washington & Lee University ('08) playing rugby throughout. When he is not on deck at Army Navy, Ian is coaching for The Capitol Sea Devils, where he is Head Coach & Director of Coaching. Ian recently stepped down from an 8 year stint as the head coach for Thomas Jefferson HSST boys and girls teams. During that tenure TJSD pulled down 11 Conference titles, 7 Region titles, and 2 boys State Championships. In his free time Ian teaches Latin and Geometry classes at St. Agnes School in Arlington, VA. Ian is ready for his favorite time of year... Army Navy swim season!

Phil Kominski Head Swim Coach - Avenel

Phil Kominski began swimming competitively the day he was born into his family. No joke, with seven brothers and sisters arriving before him, and one after, the majority of whom were swimmers, there was little choice: It was “Swim or live with the neighbors”. He swam for The Prince-Mont Swim League for thirteen years, setting several team and pool records. He club swam for RMSC for twelve years as well as at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, before transferring to the University of Maryland at College Park. Additionally, Phil has coached for both MCSL and PMSL. Outside of swimming, Phil is a Musician and owns an Events Agency, Freestyle Booking & Events, which focuses on placing musicians, DJS, lighting, photo booths and more for weddings, corporate events and other private functions. Phil, and one of his bands (Lloyd Dobler Effect, now The Breakaways) has toured the world and shared the stage as an opening act for musicians such as The Goo Goo Dolls, Kansas, Jack Johnson, Eminem, Better Than Ezra, Third Eye Blind, The Strokes, Janes Addiction, The Roots and many, many others. Phil lives in Olney, Maryland with his wife Elizabeth (English Teacher, Musician and head of the Theatre Department at Sherwood High School), his son (Tyler), his daughter (Harper) and their two dogs (Jack & Jill).

Amy Kress Head Dive Coach - Washington Golf

Amy returns for her 19th season at WGCC.  Amy grew up in Falls Church, VA and got her start diving in the NVSL at Sleepy Hollow Bath and Raquet Club at the age of eight.  She trained with York Dive Club and competed on J.E.B. Stuart High School’s varsity team.  Amy was recruited to dive at North Caroline State University where she competed from 1990-1994 earning All ACC Academic Honors and qualifying for NCAA Zone Diving Championships.  Amy coached at Georgetown University for eight seasons, Sleepy Hollow Recreation Association for six seasons, founded and coached Starr Dive Club for seven years in addition to assisting with her college coach at Candler Diving in North Carolina and Northern Virginia Dive Club. She has produced numerous CCSDA Championships, NCAA Zone Championship Qualifiers and a US Diving Junior National Qualifier.

Matt Page Head Swim Coach - Montgomery
Matthew Page is excited to start his 17th season with the CCSDA as the new head coach at Montgomery Country Club.  Matt  has been coaching in the CCSDA for the past 16 seasons. After a year of being the head coach at Avenel, he spent 15 years at Norbeck Country Club as the head coach. 
 

Growing up in Rockville,  Matt swam at Manor Woods pool for MCSL in the summer and Joe Flaherty’s Dolphins during the winter season. He swam in high school at Rockville and spent 11 years coaching MCPS high schools. His achievements and contributions to the swimming community have been widely recognized, including when he received the Alan Murray award, naming him the MCPS coach of the year.  Matt has earned a reputation for his exceptional coaching techniques, motivational skills, and ability to bring out the best in his swimmers.

Danny Palmiotto Head Swim Coach - Congressional CC

Danny Palmiotto was named Aquatics Director and Head Swim Coach at Congressional in March 2021.  He began swimming competitively at the age of six and developed a love for the sport through local summer league swimming. He competed through his high school career, ultimately earning a scholarship to swim at Wingate University in North Carolina. There, he was an academic and athletic all-conference member of the bulldogs from 2008 to 2012. During his junior and senior years at Wingate, he served as the team captain to the #5 ranked program in Division II. Danny graduated from Wingate with a Bachelor’s of Science in Middle Grade Education in 2012 and joined the Pine Crest School and Swim Club immediately after graduating.
 

As the Assistant Aquatics Director and Head Age Group Coach at the Pine Crest Swim Club in South Florida he has qualified multiple athletes for the USA Swimming Junior Nationals.  In the summer of 2019, one of his swimmers qualified for the 2020 Olympic Trials, and was ranked in the top 50 in the world in her respective event at only 14 years old. Danny enjoys teaching all levels of ages and ability and is excited about the opportunity to expand programming and build on the Congressional Aquatics experience.
 

Stephen Sakaris Head Swim Coach -- Edgemoor

Stephen has been swimming competitively since he was 8 years old, starting with Montgomery County Swim League (MCSL) and later with Rockville Montgomery Swim Club (RMSC). He was a national qualifier and team record holder (200 Free) while with RMSC. As a varsity swimmer for four years at Ohio State University, he received All American Honors and was a USA Swimming National Champion (2010), member of OSU’s 2010 Big Ten Championship team (the first since 1956),  and was a member of the team’s record setting 400 and 800 freestyle relay. Stephen was also an Olympic Trial qualifier in 2012 (200 Free). Stephen was an assistant coach at MCSL for four years and most recently at Potomac Woods Swim Club and is currently a head coach with RMSC. When not on deck or in the pool, Stephen likes to lift weights, golf, hike and hang out with his two dogs. He is very excited about being the new head swim coach of the Edgemoor Club.

Evan is excited to be starting his first season in the CCSDA!
Evan has been with the Arlington Aquatic Club since 1993. He spent the first 12 years as the Head Age Group coach and the Head Master's coach. In 2005, Evan took over as the Head Coach.
Evan grew up in Alexandria, VA, where he attended Mt. Vernon High School and graduated in 1987. He went on to get a BA in Geography in 1991 from Mary Washington College and then an MSS in Sport Coaching from the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, AL in 1993.
Evan has also been a Varsity high school coach for the past 31 years. He spent 22 years at O'Connell and the past 9 years at St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School. During the summers, Evan has coached in the NVSL for the past 35 years, the last 21 years at Dowden Terrace. Evan has served roles within PVS- 3 years as a Coaches Rep and 4 years as the Senior Chair.  He also spent the past 4 years as the Virginia Independent Schools (VISAA) Swimming President. 
Evan has coached at every single level of swimming, from learn to swim, age group, senior, national, Olympic Trials, and recently an Olympic medalist and world champion.
