B MEET @ SEQUOIA FARMS RECAP

Woo, it was a hot one last Weds evening for our B Meet at the Sequoia Farms Pool. Many swimmers said the pool felt like bath water; but still they came, they swam, they conquered! Check out the awesome meet photos on our FB page and see if you can spot your swimmers!

A MEET @ ARLINGTON KOC RECAP
It was yet another steamy morning in July and we traveled to Arlington to take on the reigning Red Division Champs. Holy Moly, the Holy Mackerels are GOOD! We lost the meet by a score of 305-146, as Arlington KOC clinched the Red Division title again. It was a valiant effort by our Stingray swimmers and we kept our heads high, our sportsmanship strong and competed until the end.

RELAY CARNIVAL RECAP
What a Totally Rad meet that was today! Everyone had fun with the 80s Theme and came out to swim their best with their teammates. Full Results are posted on the CSL website.
Our Boys 13-14 Medley Relay team of Kyle Gadsby, Jason Xin, Yaron Li, and Noah Sharabi, who already have the league meter record, said “why not?” and broke the CSL Yard Record by over 4 seconds, posting a time of 1:45.06. Congrats boys!

IM TOUGH 7/10
It’s been a busy week and our 3rd meet in as many days is tomorrow evening 7/10 @ Chantilly Highlands Pool. The IM Tough Meet showcases those swimmers who have conquered all 4 swim strokes. The 10&Under session begins at 6pm and the 11&Over Session begins at 8pm (swimmers need to arrive much earlier). Come out and cheer on our IM swimmers and eat some yummy BBQ from the CH Concessions! Seriously, it is pretty good, I happen to know that the guy who makes it enters BBQ competitions.

B MEET @ CHANTILLY HIGHLANDS DOLPHINS 7/12
We travel again to the Chantilly Highlands Pool on Weds evening for our last B Meet of the season in a Battle of the Purple Teams. The BBQ will probably make another appearance. This is the last chance for many of our swimmers to show off their time improvements and/or attempt to become legal in a new stroke, so don't miss out! Declaration Deadline for this meet is Mon night 7/10.

A MEET VS CASCADES RAPIDS 7/15
This is the last meet at our pool and the last A Meet of the season. We have not won a meet this season and neither has Cascades, so there is a lot on the line! Come out and have a breakfast burrito or donut and a cup of coffee and cheer on our Stingray relay teams one last time. Declaration Deadline for this meet is Weds 7/12

SWIMMERS OF THE WEEK
Congratulations to our Stingray Swimmers of the Week! Keep up the good work!
1st Practice - Ted Shin
2nd Practice - Sebastian Aviles
3rd Practice - Ella Huang

MOVIE MORNING 7/13
On Thursday July 13, we are headed to the movies to see ‘Elemental’ @ 10:15am at University Mall Theatres in Fairfax. We have reserved a private theater for the cost of $10/person. This includes the movie, popcorn, and a drink. You can pre-pay at this link  https://square.link/u/j62F9ULK    or pay at the theater. The 3rd Practice will end at 9:30am that morning so that we all have time to get to the theater. This is not a Drop-off event, a caregiver must be present or arrange for another attending adult to be in charge of your child.

STINGRAYS GOT TALENT 7/14
Come join us on Friday evening 7/14 at the pool for our annual swimmer’s Talent Show! The entertainment (emcee’d by DJ Sky) will kickoff around 6:30pm and all swimmers are invited to show off their special talent, whether it be music, dance, comedy, magic etc! There is Signup at the pool house this week to help us organize a lineup for the evening, have your child write in their name and what they are performing. The Taco Town Food Truck will be in the parking lot from 5-8pm if you would like to purchase dinner and since BINGO was cancelled twice due to weather, we are going to try to get a few games in before the show starts (we still have prizes to give away). Bring a blanket or chair to sit on (and maybe some bug spray) and prepare to be amazed by the talents of your fellow Stingrays!

STINGRAY SWIMAPALOOZA 7/17
Back by popular demand is our annual Swimapalooza! This is a fun morning at the pool for all swimmers in place of regular practices. We will be playing pool games, swimming fun relay races, taking silly pictures, jamming to tunes, and EATING PANCAKES! The Event will be 7:30-9:30am. Come for all or part of the festivities, however we can’t guarantee any pancakes will be left towards the end!

In addition, we will be collecting non-perishable food items for the Community of Faith UMC Food Pantry that serves families right in our own backyard. Please consider bringing 1 or more non-perishable unexpired food items. The Pantry most often needs dry beans, white rice, canned meats, pasta sauce, cereal, canned fruit, ramen, dry pasta, tomatoes (stewed and diced). There will be a donation bin at the event.

VOLUNTEERS
We are fast approaching the Finish Line of the Season and We. Are. Exhausted here at Stingray Central. Please help spread out the workload by taking a volunteer shift at an upcoming meet or other event, there aren’t many left!

Also, if you signed up for future volunteer slots early in the season, we implore you to go back through the rest of the upcoming events online and see if you can still fulfill that position. We’ve had some instances where people haven’t shown up for their volunteer duties because their kids were not selected to swim in that meet. You are definitely not required to volunteer if your child is not present, but please remove yourself from the Job Signup beforehand so that others may sign up and we can see where we have gaps to fill. We are finding ourselves scrambling at the last minute to fulfill volunteer commitments far too often at meets due to ‘no-shows’.

Speaking of Volunteers, we need a Winter Swim Coordinator. This person will coordinate a time and pool space with Cub Run Rec Center to host our winter swim program, which runs once a week from September-May. It is a chance for our kids to keep up their skills and time in the water in the off-season. If you want more information on the role and/or can help us out with this, please email [email protected]
