What is Rec Swim? Is it right for your child?
What is Neptunites?
Neptunite's Recreational Swim Team is a special program designed to introduce children to swimming in a team environment while improving endurance and swimming technique. Recreational Swim focuses on stroke introduction, refinement and building endurance.
Neptunites is part of the Central Valley Recreational Swim League (CVRSL) and we swim against other teams throughout the valley who are a part of this league as well.
What to expect during practices:
Your swimmer will be grouped according to age. Practices run Monday through Thursday for 1 hour (our younger swimmers swim for 45 minutes). You'll receive your practice time and meet your coach the first night of regular season (May 06, 2024 @ 6:00pm at the Monache pool). During practices, swimmers work on endurance and swimming technique (strokes, dives, flip turns for our older swimmers). Most swimmers wear goggles and a cap during practices.
What to expect during swim meets:
During June, swim meets will be held on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays. Practices will continue on days without meets. Swimmers will have the chance to swim relays (swim as a group of 4) as well as individual events. Swim meets always follow the same event order (free style relays, followed by individual free style, then back stroke, etc) and progress from 6 and under up to 15-18 year olds for each stroke/event and repeat for the next stroke/event. Sound confusing? Don't worry! Our helpful coaches and volunteers will guide you through all of the swim meet intricacies, and before long you'll be a meet pro!
A typical meet will start at 6:30 pm and run until approximately 9:30 pm (many younger swimmers leave after back stroke, cutting meet time almost in half). Many families bring pop up tents and chairs to create a little space for themselves to relax between events. Also, families typically bring dinner and snacks to the meet, or purchase food from the team's concession stand.
Because it takes about 45 adults to run a home meet and 15 to run an away meet, we require families to volunteer for a minimum of 3 jobs throughout the season. Our team provides information about each job and seasoned pros will assist you in learning how to complete your job. This year, families will have the chance to sign up for jobs online!
