Parent Meeting Notes
Notes from the Parent Meeting:
- Wednesday morning could still change to Tuesday if the college schedule permits.
- Follow the “NEWS” tab on our team website and the app for all important information that rolls out. Use that as a reference for previously released information as well.
- We are swimming in 5 pools that are 25 meters and 3 pools that are 25 yards. No Riverside this year. Be aware that times will be different in those two course and can be easily converted to compare.
- Sportsmanship needs to be a deliberate focus for our team!
- Swimmers should spend the majority of their time at the meet in a localized family/group area with supervision. Swimmers should not be roaming around the facility with free range for a 3 hour swim meet. I feel that is setting us up for a situation where we have bored swimmers looking for something to do.
- Behavioral issues will be addressed directly with the swimmer and parent.
- Try not to send your kids to clerk of course SUPER early. Just another opportunity for poor decisions to be made while a bunch of kids are crowded around each other, bored and amped up because they are about to race.
- Officials should not be communicating with anyone outside of the coach. So, you should not be trying to communicate with them either.
- They should be entering DQ codes into the results this year, which will tell you the basic information as to why your swimmers were disqualified.
- Officials are trying their best to improve consistency across meets. This was an area of concern last year for many teams.
- Whistle protocol is being introduced this season.
- Swimmers will not be told to step up, there will be a loud whistle that signals swimmers to step up and spectators to be quiet for the start of a race. Swimmers will be briefed on this procedure, and it will be practiced at our scrimmage.
- Lanes could be assigned by time at out-of-division meets. This means that all of the fastest swimmers may be seeded in the last heat, regardless of their team, and similarly in all prior heats. In dual meets, the last heat will contain the fastest three swimmers from each team and they will be set up across the pool to compete equally for scoring positions.
- Sunday Championship Qualification will be based on a list of cut times this year. Those cut times are being finalized and will be announced before the start of the season.
- Make sure you notify me as soon as possible if you notice a discrepancy with your swimmer’s times on the “HSL Top Times” list that goes out once a week. That is important for their seeding at Championships.
