Coaches and Directors
Coach Erik Mandell, a 2017 inductee into the Massachusetts High School Swimming Coaches Hall of Fame, recently completed his twentieth year as the Head Coach of Boys and Girls Swimming at Minnechaug Regional High School. In that time, the Boys Team has won 7 Western Mass team championships while the Girls Team has won 6 Western Mass or Central-West team championships. He has coached 42 individual sectional champions, 11 individual state champions, 3 NISCA All-America swimmers, and 3 USA Swimming Scholastic All-America swimmers during his tenure. A graduate of Colgate University where he was a two-sport varsity athlete, Coach Mandell is also a certified American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and a USA Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach.

A former Springfield College swimmer, Tim is a third grade teacher in the Chicopee Public School system, and has been on staff with FSC since pre-pandemic. Tim has a son currently swimming for FSC.

Coach Martin Gullberg, who began his career as a swimmer with FSC, returns to the program as a staff member this spring. Martin was a four-year varsity swimmer at both Minnechaug and Springfield College. Upon graduation, Martin embarked on a lengthy coaching career that includes stints as an assistant at Minnechaug and USA Swimming teams Aquabears, PVAA, and Bluefish Swim Club. Martin is also a past Aquatics Director at the Springfield JCC and an Assistant Coach there. He was head Coach of the East Longmeadow Marlins. Martin is a true aquatics professional and outstanding teacher of the sport, and we are very fortunate to have him "back home" with FSC!
