Meet #3 Recap
Good afternoon Firefish,
Congratulations on another great meet! Though we didn’t come away with the win, the Firefish put on an impressive performance against the best team in JRAC…at their pool! With a smaller group of swimmers than we usually have, you guys still managed to put up 1500 points–well done!
If you haven’t already, go ahead and declare as “ATTEND” or “DECLINE” for our fourth meet of the season, which will be home vs. Ridgetop. I’ll send out a reminder email about this tomorrow afternoon.
We will also be doing fun practice this afternoon! If you already came this morning, please don’t double up today. We want to give everyone a great fun practice after such a difficult meet!
I f your swimmer got first place in an event, they might not get their ribbon until next week. We've had so many first places in the last three meets, we ran out of ribbons!

Best Times!
We had 39 swimmers who dropped time in 2 or more events, as well as a ton of swimmers who swam an event (a lot of butterfly) for the first time! You can find a list of outstanding swimmers (those who achieved two or more best times) at the following link:
Special Shout-outs!
- Everyone who did a butterfly event for the first time! Many mites did butterfly for the first time in a meet, and almost every 9 year old did their first 50 butterfly in a meet! You guys did a great job, and we’ll keep working on that butterfly for Meet 6 at Glen Allen!
- All of our relays! You guys stayed until the very end of the meet, and brought the energy! Our relays were dominant at the end of the meet, and did a great job of showcasing the speed of the Firefish!
- Special shout-out to our 13-14 A Relay! I’ve been a member of the Firefish for almost 15 years, and this genuinely might have been the most exciting relay I’ve ever seen. Kanawha and Southampton were neck-and-neck the whole time, with Brady Hawke and Ivanna Butler swimming a great first two legs for our relay. Anna Kate Walton swam an incredible third leg, and the anchor, Harvey Trivette, pulled away at the very last second to take the win! If anyone happened to take a video of this relay, I would love it if you’d send it my way.
- Logan Sullivan, who scraped his knee before his 25 breaststroke, but didn’t let it phase him… he hopped in, went a best time, and took third in the race! Tough cookie award goes to Logan!
- Our senior swimmers, many of whom missed last meet for beach week, for showing up and scoring 300 of our team’s points this meet! Going into the meet, we knew Southampton was going to have a huge group of seniors there, but our seniors hung with them!
- Sam Trivette, who stepped in for the 11-12 A relay at the last minute, swimming a fantastic third leg of the relay! This group gave the team record a scare, missing it by just .05 seconds! Don’t worry guys, you’ll get plenty more chances to take both relay records down!
- Sam Bischoff, for an incredible 50 backstroke! In an unfamiliar pool, Sam swam a fantastic 50 back, dropping over a second and establishing himself as one of the best backstrokers in JRAC!
- Eva Larkum, who, despite getting a bit overheated at the beginning of the meet, still managed to come back and swim most of her events, even going a best time in 50 butterfly! All of the Larkums (Eva, Paul, and Mac) had an early wakeup for travel this morning, but still stayed until the end of the meet, all of them going a best time at the meet. You guys rock!
- Logan Jones, who was admittedly a bit worried about swimming 50 butterfly, but conquered her fear, swimming the event for the first time! Well done Logan!
- One last shout-out for two swimmers who were brave enough to race me in the banana costume this morning at fun practice! Will Wallin and Emma Trivette volunteered to take on the banana in a 50 butterfly, and it was a close race between all three of us, with Will taking the win!
Firefish, though we weren’t able to conquer Southampton, I can’t tell you how proud I am of your performance at that meet. You guys clearly raced hard every time you got in the water, and it shows up in the results. We’ve now completed our three hardest meets of the year, and look to improve our record to 3-1 next week against Ridgetop! The stroke of the meet will be backstroke, so that will be our main focus this week. Looking forward to seeing everyone at practice!
GO FIREFISH!
