SWIM MEET/DIVE CLUB VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS
As of: February 28, 2023

Monona Swim and Dive (MO) is a volunteer-run organization. We need parent volunteers to be able to run our meets, plan our social events, and support our coaches and athletes. For dual meets hosted by MO at the Monona Community Pool, we need about 70 volunteers for swim meets and 12 volunteers for dive meets. The numbers vary for social events, and coach support positions.

For 'away' meets, not hosted by MO, there are generally no volunteer requirements. (The All-City Championship Swim Meet is an exception. MO is required to provide timers and clerk of course volunteers throughout the meet.) Any official volunteer position filled at an away pool, either at a dual meet or All-City, will count towards your volunteer commitment.

The overall goal of our volunteer requirements is to ensure that we have enough people to run our meets, host and execute our social events, and support our coaches and athletes all summer long. This policy helps spread the effort amongst all MO families.

Swim Expectations

  • Volunteer commitments can be filled by any adult; parents, grandparents, etc.
  • We use a point system for keeping track of volunteer commitments. Each family is expected to earn a minimum of 2 points per season. Each volunteer shift is assigned points based on the number of hours required.
  • The final job list will come out on Friday afternoons. Sign up for jobs will close Wednesday at 10 p.m. before the meet.
  • If we do not have enough volunteers signed up for a meet, we will assign jobs to families not yet signed up, have a child swimming in the meet, and who have not yet met the full season volunteer requirement. Please proactively let us know if you will not be available to volunteer and your child is swimming. We will try to accommodate through other opportunities.
  • Families that do not fulfill their volunteer commitment will not be considered in good standing and not be given priority registration the following season. A no-show to a committed position also causes a family to not be in good standing. Some exceptions will be made for emergencies so please contact the volunteer leaders if you are unable to make your assigned shift.

Dive Expectations

  • We use a point system for keeping track of volunteer commitment. Each family is expected to earn a minimum of 1 point per season. Each volunteer shift is assigned points based on the number of hours required.
  • The final job list will come out on Thursday afternoons. Sign up for jobs will close Wednesday at 10 p.m. before the meet.
  • If we do not have enough volunteers signed up for a meet, we will assign jobs to families not yet signed up, have a child diving in the meet, and who have not yet met the full season volunteer requirement. Please let us know if you will not be available to volunteer and your child is diving.

Dual participants (Swim & Dive Team) Expectations

  • If your child participates in both swimming and diving you will only need to earn 2 points for the entire season and we prefer you earn this by volunteering at the swim meets.

Social & Coach Support Shifts

As social events and coach support needs are planned, opportunities to sign up will be communicated via the weekly Lane Lines newsletter at a minimum. Additional communication may occur directly to those needing family points to recruit support.

Registering to Volunteer

All events (meets, social, and coach support) that require volunteers will be posted as events on the team site: mononaswimanddive.com. You must have an active account with an active member in the current year to be able to register.

Registration for All-City volunteers varies by host pool. Fulfilling a full shift at an All-City Championship event will be considered 2 points. The MO volunteer coordinators will review and make note of MO volunteers at All-City events.

The point value of each shift in events hosted by MO will be included in the description of the shift.

A video describing the process to register to volunteer is here: https://www.mononaswimanddive.com/page/how-to

Confirmation of Volunteering

Each volunteer must check in with the Volunteer Coordinators (or job representative) at each event to confirm attendance and earn points. Failure to do so will be considered a no-show and the family will not remain in good standing for the following team registration. Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis.
