Karl Hodgson Head Coach

Head Coach 

Coach Karl has been part of the Forest Hills Swim Team family since 1983 when he started as an assistant coach and quickly was bumped up to head coach the following year where he ran the team for 2 years. He returned as head coach to FHSC in 1992 where he stays today inspiring our swimmers of all swimming abilities to tackle this tough sport and find personal success. He has led the FHSC Swim team to 22 NSSL League Championships. He currently is the Head Coach of the Birmingham Seaholm High School Girls Swim Team and led the team to 4 State Championships. He has also led the Cranbrook boys swim team to 4 State Championships. Karl has previously coached club swimming at Royal Oak Penguins, Michigan Stingrays, and Birmingham Blue Dolphins. He also previously coached high school swimming at Royal Oak Dondero, and Avondale. We are so happy to have Coach Karl back for another season to defend our back-to-back NSSL League Championship and continue to lead and guide our swimmers in the pool! 

Abigail Blakely Assistant Coach

Abigail (Abby) swam for Forest Hills for 11 years, graduated from the team in the summer of 2022. She swam for Karl at Seaholm High School and was a part of the 3-peat state champions in 2019-2021. She will be an incoming junior at Purdue University majoring in Public Health. She is the Women’s Team Captain on Purdue Swim Club as a part of the officer board for the club. She was a part of the national teams that won back-to-back national championships (in 2023 and 2024) at their annual national championship meet in April. Her favorite event is the 100 IM :) This will be her second year coaching at FHSC. She loves getting to coach and bond with the kids along with being a part of their growth and love for the sport, and she can’t wait to come back this summer!!

Bryce Liddell Assistant Coach

Bryce Liddell is 21 years old and entering his first year of college as an engineer at Case Western Reserve University. Bryce started his swimming career as a fellow Waterhog at 11 years old. He  was also a part of the Seaholm High School Boys State Championship team .  Bryce currently swims for John Carroll University as he enters his senior year. This is Bryce's second year coaching for Forest Hills!  He's  excited to help the team compete for another NSSL Championship and help the kids grow into strong swimmers and people!  Bryce's favorite event is the 50 fly! 

 

 

 
Patrick Branch Assistant Coach

We are excited to have Coach Partick back for a 2nd season as an assitant coach for FHSC! Patrick started his swim career swimming at Cranbrook Swim Club as an 8 and under. Patrick swam for BBA and BBD in Brimingham along with swimming for Seaholm High School before being recruited to swim at John Carroll University. Patrick is now entering his junior year and is still swimming at JCU. His favorite event currently is the 200 IM!

Carly Burry Assistant Coach

Carly is 20 years old and will be a junior at Michigan State University in the fall where she is studying kinesiology with a minor in health promotion. This will be Carly’s second year coaching at Forest Hills. She swam for the waterhogs for 11 years, as well as BBD and Seaholm High School where she was part of the 3-time state championship team in 2019-2021. Her favorite event is the 50 breaststroke. She continues to swim for the MSU swim club and serves as the volunteer and fundraising chair on the executive board for the club. Carly is super excited to be back this summer. She loves getting to support each swimmer in achieving their goals both in and out of the pool, and can’t wait for all of the fun that summer swim brings!

Kelley Hassett Assistant Coach

Kelley is entering her freshman year of college at Oakland University where she will swim and study business. Kelley has been swimming for 13 years and this will be her 13th summer at Forest Hills. Kelley swam for Seaholm High School where she competed at the state meet all 4 years and won the 500 free in 2022 and 2023, as well as broke the D2 state record in 2023. Kelley was also a part of the back to back state championships in 2020-21 at Seaholm. Kelley swam for BBD where she has competed at the YMCA Nationals meet since 2021. Her favorite event is 400 IM. This will be Kelley’s first year as assistant coach and she is very excited to help the next generation of swimmers!

Robbie Higgins Assistant Coach

Robbie Jack Higgins has had a long swimming career which started 13 years ago as a fellow FHSC Waterhog!  He  swam for FHSC for 13 summers, where he won multiple A finals in the 50 backstroke. He just completed a post grad year swimming for Spire Institute in Ohio. He plans on continuing his swim career in college this coming fall. Robbie was an all state swimmer throughout high school while also playing football. Over the years Robbie discovered that swimming was the right path for him. Robbie's current favorite events are are sprint free, back, and fly. Robbie has a lot of passion and energy and is excited to coach his first season at FHSC and the next generation of H2OGS!

Morgan Priestley Assistant Coach

Morgan Priestley a former FHSC Waterhog and Seaholm Swimmer, who still holds FHSC and Seaholm records will be coaching part time for the Waterhogs this summer! Morgan swam competitively for 15+ years, primarily excelling in the mid-distance freestyles. While at Stanford, he was a four-year member, multi-time All-American, and multi-event Olympic Trial qualifier for the Cardinal.  On the side, Morgan is an avid sports fan, concert junkie, runner, and enjoys floating around the pool when he gets the chance.
