PWSL Week 1 2023

It was a beautiful morning to be at the pool in Prince William County for the opening of the 2023 PWSL summer swim season.
Although week 1 doesn't see the league quite back to where we were in 2019, we've grown again from last season - and some anecdotes have me thinking that our teams are bigger than these week 1 numbers suggest:
2019 Week 1: 3570 swimmers, 9158 splashes, 4024 improvements from seed times
2021 Week 1: 3038 swimmers, 7550 splashes, 2697 improvements from seed times
2022 Week 1: 3102 swimmers, 7368 splashes, 2864 improvements from seed times
2023 Week 1: 3221 swimmers, 7860 splashes, 3492 improvements from seed times
No league records were set in week 1.
Two upsets were recorded – Virginia Oaks won swimming up a division with Stonewall Park, and Montclair won against Ridgewood. Four of 12 meets were within a 250 point margin.
In the most exciting result of the week, Victory Lakes eked out the win over Meadowbrook by just. one. point. 2500.5 to 2499.5 The last meet I recall being so close was 6 points. Every point matters!
Live results are available at pwswim.org for all the meets that have the ability to update. The site worked great today; you might find it down on Saturday afternoons/evenings while I clean up the meet databases and reload results to create the summary sheet, but once I’m done final results and Top Times should remain available on the site. I’m finding that the “Top Times” screens on the website are very susceptible to problems in the meet databases, so if your meet is missing during the day, please consider them unofficial until I can get off deck and update the site with all the final results.

This week's cyber meet and league record file are available to the computer reps on the “Computer Support” tab of this site; coaches and others should talk to their team’s computer reps to access them.
