Inaugural Light Up Award Recepient
Congratulations to our 2025 winner, McKenzie Landry!
From her coach:
I am honored to nominate McKenzie Landry for the Light Up Award. McKenzie has been a part of the Lakeside Gator family for the past five summers, and from the moment she joined, she has been a ray of light on our team—always full of energy, joy, and kindness. What makes McKenzie so special is how naturally she uplifts those around her. Whether she’s cheering on a teammate, helping her mom sell heat sheets, stepping in to swim twice in a relay when her team needs her, or simply sharing a smile with someone who needs it—McKenzie is always there. Her positivity is genuine and contagious. She has a way of making everyone feel included, encouraged, and important. McKenzie also shows remarkable perseverance. Recently, she chose to stay after practice every day for a week just to work on her IM turns in preparation for her first 100 IM. That kind of dedication—paired with her joyful spirit and willingness to serve—perfectly captures the heart of this award. McKenzie brings warmth, light, and love to every space she’s in. She is a beloved teammate, a kind friend, and someone who truly makes Lakeside a better place. I truly believe she is the kind of swimmer this award was made to celebrate.
Emma Bell Savoie is described as being a ray of light, a tiny dancer, a loving daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, neighbor and friend. She was characterized by joy and love of life. Emma Bell was taken away too soon in 2022 at the age of 6 when she was killed in a car accident on her school campus. Her parents keep her memories alvive through the Emma Bell Foundation and Safe Path to School Task Foce.
Lakeside Swim Club would like to name an award in her honor to a swimmer that lights up the pool deck, exudes joy and positivity, and is a helpful teammate to their peers and coaches. This award will be given at the "B" Championship Meet every year.
