Stingray Newsletter #2
Hi Stingray Families,
Happy Father’s Day to all our Stingray dads! It was fantastic to watch our swimmers do the thing they love yesterday. A special thank you to our parent volunteers – we couldn’t do it without you. And since the meet went much longer than we anticipated and we didn’t switch halfway through, almost all volunteers from yesterday will receive 2 points.
Nottingham Relay Carnival
For those that signed up, Wednesday, June 19th is the Nottingham Relay Carnival, at Nottingham Swim Club, 1104 Kingsbridge Terrace, Mt. Airy, MD 21771. Open warm-ups will begin around 4:15pm and the meet starts at 5:15pm. This will be a fun meet of all relays with carnival games during swimmer’s downtime. When not warming up, there will be the opportunity to play some small carnival style games and purchase food from concessions from 4:15 to 5pm. All swimmers who enter the meet will be put into as many events as the coaches are able.
Home meet vs Maple Lawn
Our first meet is Saturday, June 22, at home, against Maple Lawn. Please sign up and declare by Tuesday at 7pm. The coaches will select the events for your summer; please do not select your child’s events. Volunteer sign up is done in the same place and we will send a reminder when those open up. If you did not sign up for a job at time trials, please make sure you sign up for this one, so we can have all the jobs full, and everyone can make their volunteer points. Just like time trials, have your swimmer there by 7:45am to check-in with a coach. Warm-ups are at 8 and the meet starts at 9.
Parking and tent set-up is the same as time trials: the parking lot and the grassy area behind the cones set out are for the visiting team. Maple Lawn is a bigger team than the Riding Club, so it’s imperative we save that area for them. Our team has the grassy area surrounding the pool, on the other side of the fence, and moving toward the lap pool area.
Set up and Break Down
Set-up the night before begins by 7pm (when the pool closes) and clean-up is right after the meet. We appreciate all those who have helped and remind everyone to lend a hand. It makes it go by quicker, we can get the pool opened to the public on time, and any rising 6th grader or older can get service hours.
Team Shirts, Caps, Spirit Wear
If you haven’t received your cap yet, please see a board member for pick up. We still have a few personalized caps that haven’t been picked up, along with silicone caps for $15 or latex caps – all with the team logo. We highly recommend your swimmer wear their cap during their events, at the very least it makes it easier for our photographers to notice them and those are posted on our private Facebook group after the meet. We will have spirit wear and t-shirt orders available for pick up during practice this week.
Swim Buddies
Don’t forget to cheer on swim buddies during practice and events! One idea is for older swimmers to help their little buddies learn how to get their swim caps on. Otherwise, there’s no need for ‘gifts’ every week, just be there and be supportive.
Practice
Practice will continue at the same times as last week. We will hold practice unless it is actively thunder-storming (or in the case of any other dangerous weather event). If the weather looks iffy, check our Facebook page or your email for any updates.
Fundraising Updates
We are still looking for fundraising ideas and sponsors for our banner! If you have a fundraising idea, you can earn a volunteer point by setting it up. Please email [email protected] with your ideas and any information you might need from us.
Thank you so much to those who have already stepped up to be a sponsor on our banner: Gallagher Pools, W.E. Electric, GTAC, Morgan Muse of Corner House Realty, and Coastal Site Services! We are still accepting sponsorship and just need a high-resolution logo by Monday.
We are also doing the kid’s Splash and Dash again this summer. The event is scheduled for Friday, July 19th – more information to follow soon.
If you have any questions, please email us at [email protected].
Enjoy your weekend and see you at the pool!
