‘Old School’ Records Fall at CST’s 2021 Holiday Bash

Carib Swim Team’s annual Holiday Bash meet was held on Sunday 12th December, and was the first meet in several months attended by all three teams in Sint Maarten. As the last meet of the year (for most swimmers), it was the last chance for CST swimmers to break team records for their current age… and five swimmers came through big time!

Aiyana Bourne (10) set the team record in her first ever 800 free (13:11.53), and smashed a team record from 2006 in 400 free (6:16.17).

Matias Piazza (13) also broke a 2006 record in 200 fly (2:29.27), as well as resetting team records in 400 free (4:39.13) and 200 IM (12:28.36).

Joey Schvartz (11) broke an even older time, destroying a 2005 time in 200 backstroke (2:35.22), as well as 200 free (2:18.69). Joey and Matias now share all team records for 11 year old boys.

Both Arianna Lont (14) and Denecia Prince (12) reset team records for their respective ages in 1,500 free (21:31.13 for Denecia, and 20:31.94 for Arianna). Arianna’s time was also the new Senior record, meaning she is the fastest of all CST swimmers in history, no matter their age.

There were many new time standards met as well! New ‘B’ times were achieved by Aurelie Desir (50 back), Emma Szabo (100 back), Sacha Tobias (200 back), Nihal Chugani (200 IM), Patrick Szabo (200 IM), and Kjeld Van Der Meer (200 free).

New ‘BB’ times were posted by Aiyana Bourne (400 free), Gigi Cai (200 IM), and Denecia Prince (400 free).

Matias Piazza set new ‘A’ times in 200 fly and 200 IM.

Finally, Joey Schvartz achieved new ‘AA’ times in 200 free and 200 back. Joey will be headed to France this week to compete in the French Age Group Nationals meet!

Overall, there were some very strong performances, and some very nice races by the CST swimmers! Congratulations on a successful 2021!
