CST Ends Season in Martinique

Carib Swim Team finished their 2021/22 season at the Martinique Open Championships. In addition to all of the Martinique teams, who are quite good regionally, teams from Guadeloupe and St. Lucia also attended.

The added competition was just what CST needed to finish their season, as the fast swimming pulled our swimmers to some great times!

The meet was attended by 13 CST swimmers, many of whom have never competed long course before. It was certainly a learning experience. The meet was ran as a senior meet, meaning that all swimmers were competing against each other no matter their age.

Saphir Thomas was CST’s most decorated swimmer, earning a Gold Medal in 800 free, two Silver Medals (200 free and 400 free), and a Bronze Medal in 200 backstroke.

Matias Piazza also earned four medals, with Silver Medals in 400 free, 200 fly, and 1500 free. He earned a Bronze Medal in 100 fly, but it should be noted that his preliminary time of 59.80 was the fastest of the meet.

Joey Schvartz, at only 12 years old, earned a Silver Medal in 400 IM, and a Bronze Medal in 1500 free.

Arianna Lont won two medals, a Silver in 400 free, and a Bronze in 1500 free.

Although not medaling, Gigi Cai made her first two finals ever in 100 breast and 100 fly.

A bunch of new time standards were earned:

New ‘B’ times were made by D’Anka Burgan (50 free, 100 free, 100 breast, and 50 fly), Louise Creusot (400 free, 100 back, and 200 back), Daan Vinke (100 free, 200 free, 400 free, and 1500 free), and Luuk Vinke (50 free, 200 free, 100 back, and 50 breast).

New ‘BB’ times were achieved by D’Anka (50 back and 50 breast), Gigi (200 IM), Arianna (200 breast), Kjeld Van Der Meer (400 free and 50 fly), and Luuk (100 free).

New ‘A’ times were performed by Gigi (400 free), and Kjeld (100 free).

New ‘AA” times were earned by Saphir (400 free and 800 free), Joey (50 free, as a relay lead-off), and Kjeld (50 free).

Matias earned a new ‘AAA’ time in 800 free. He also made a ‘AAAA’ time in 200 fly. Joey also swam a ‘AAAA’ time in 1500 free.

Most of these swimmers finished their season in Martinique. However, Joey will go on to compete in the French Junior Championships in France later this month, and Matias will swim at the Canadian Junior Championship, also in July.
