Holiday Bash Brings 14 New Team Records, 29 New Time Standards

Carib Swim Team held it’s annual Holiday Bash Swim Meet on Sunday December 4th. The competition, the last of the year for most swimmers, proved to be highly successful, with CST swimmers achieving 14 new team records, 29 new time standards, and a boat load of new personal best times.

Saphir Thomas broke a 13 year old record by swimming a 31.56 in 50 butterfly. Arianna Lont, in her last meet with CST before moving to the States later this month, broke a five year old record in 400 free (5:08.94), and also set a new record in 200 backstroke (2:05.21).

Matias Piazza set five new records. His 50 free (25.61) broke both the 14 year old boys record, as well as the overall Senior record. His 50 backstroke (30.64) was nearly 10 seconds faster than the old record, and his 100 backstroke (1:07.91) broke an 18 year old record! Finally, his 200 freestyle (2:05.21) was faster than his own time by a bit.

Not to be outdone, Joey Schvartz broke six new team records. His 50 breaststroke (35.08) broke a 16 year old record by a full second). He swam a very gutsy 1500 free (17:52.49), breaking Matias’ record by 1 minute 46 seconds. His 200 breaststroke (2:43.75) broke his own 12 year old boys record by over 12 seconds, but also the Senior record as well. Finally, his 400 IM (4:59.95) smashed his own record by nearly 10 seconds, and is also the new Senior record.

It should be noted that Matias and Arianna came straight from the Trisport Aquathlon, so they had alread performed an open water competition before achieving these results! Also of note, Between Joey and Matias, they now own all of the 11 year old and 12 year old boys records.

CST enjoyed a lot of newly met time standards as well. New ‘B’ times were achieved by Eden Andre (50 back), Adaya Bourne (200 fly), D’Anka Burgan (100 free and 200 free), Yuyu Cai (200 IM), Ashlee-Marie Daniel (50 free), Denecia Prince (400 IM), Nihal Chugani (400 free, 800 free, 1500 free), Simon Creusot (50 back), Joseph Johnson (50 back, 50 breast), and Daan Vinke (1500 free).

New ‘BB’ times were met by Eden Andre (50 breast), D’Anka Burgan (100 back), Arianna Lont (200 back), Darina Smirnova (100 IM), Nico Piazza (400 IM), and Luuk Vinke (50 back).

Matias made a new ‘A’ time in his 100 back. He also achieved a new ‘AAA’ time in his 50 free, as did Joey in 50 free also, along with 50 breast, 200 breast, and 50 fly. Finally, Joey surpassed the ‘AAAA’ times in 1500 free and 400 IM.

Event winners aside from those named above were Laeticia Martin, Nikki Grandtner, Mathys Fleming, Brandon Girier Dufournier, Charlotte Challenger, Tavare Green, Declan Boyd, Caithlyn Challenger, Kjeld Van Der Meer, Philip Chang Sing Pang, Gigi Cai, Henri Martin, Kiki Vinke, Anderson Wang, Harrison Radican, and Lou-Anne Ibrahim.
