Big Results From a Small Contingency in Guadeloupe
Eight Carib Swim Team athletes traveled to Guadeloupe this last weekend for the annual Shark Week invitational meet. And although we were small, we were mighty!
In the first meet of the year, seven of the eight swimmers made appearances on the awards podium, with Saphir Thomas earning 1 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze medal. Matias Piazza earned 1 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze medals. Birthday Boy Simon Creusot won a gold medal, four silver medals, and one bronze medal. Nicolas Piazza outdid his brother by bringing home 2 gold, 3 silver, and 3 bronze medals. Gigi Cai earned 1 gold and 1 silver medal. Caithlyn Challenger, in her first long course meet, earned 1 silver and 2 bronze medals. Finally, Joey Schvartz swam to 8 gold medals, and 1 silver medal.
Six swimmers combined for 29 new team records! Finally, new time standards were met by several of the swimmers, with three new ‘B’ times and 12 new ‘BB’ times.
It should be noted that all of this was performed unrested and unsuited (where most of their competition was wearing tech suits). This should bring a lot of confidence for the rest of the season.
