Martinique Madness!
Carib Swim Team traveled with nine swimmers to Martinique over the weekend, and shredded some old personal records along with team records!
Joey Schvartz led the way, winning all eight of his events. Matias Piazza brought home one gold medal and two silver medals, and Saphir Thomas acquired a whole set with one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal.
An amazing 23 team records were broken. For the girls, Saphir (14 years) reset the team records in 100 free (1:02.41, also an overall team record), 200 free (2:20.98), 400 free (4:59.87), 50 back (32.95), and 100 back (1:13.17). Nikki Grandtner (15 years) pulled a backstroke trifecta, setting new team records in 50 back (37.15), 100 back (1:21.32), and 200 back (2:55.31).
For the boys, Joey (13 years) broke records in the 200 back (2:35.94, also an overall team record), 200 breast (2:55.10), and 400 IM (5:29.76). Matias (15 years) reset team records in 100 free (57.09), 200 free (2:07.23, also a new overall team record), and 800 free (9:16.14, also an overall team record). Brandon Girier Dufournier (16 years) set five new team records, 200 free (2:52.33), 400 free (6:12.42), 50 breast (41.41), 100 breast (1:34.54), and 200 breast (3:34.18).
Joey’s 200 backstroke was a new ‘A’ time. New ‘B’ times were set by Shaniqua Schladt in 50 free, 200 free and 200 breast in her first ever long course meet! Nihal Chugani achieved new ‘B’ standards in 100 free, 200 free, and 400 free. Finally, Nikki’s 200 backstroke was a new ‘B’ time.
Overall, it was a successful meet, and a great learning experience. Nice job CST!
