Fast Times at CST Spring Swim Fest
This year’s Swim Fest was a one session meet, but attracted not only the Sint Maarten teams, but also the Anguilla Aquastars, making for a fun and spirited meet.
Carib Swim Team had four swimmers combine for nine new team records. Matias Piazza went three-for-three, with new 15-year-old-boys records in 100 free (56.79), 100 back (1:06.75), and 100 fly (1:01.86). Joey Schvartz set new 13-year-old-boys records in 100 breast (1:18.05), and 200 IM (2:26.90). Saphir Thomas had a two-for-one, setting the new 14-year-old-girls, as well as the overall Senior record, in the 1500 free (19:30.67). Finally, Masters swimmer Jolien Wind broke the 18/over women’s records in 1500 free (20:08.46), and 100 breast (1:21.02).
A ton of new time standards were achieved. New ‘B’ times were made by Eden Andre (50 fly), Yuyu Cai (50 fly), Julia Vriezen (100 free and 100 back), Simon Creusot (50 breast and 200 IM), Henri Martin (200 IM), Gael Penaloza (50 breast), Sernik Porcasi (50 back), and Kjeld Van Der Meer (50 back).
New ‘BB’ times were performed by Eden Andre (100 breast), Gigi Cai (1500 free), Denecia Prince (200 IM), Darina Smirnova (100 back), Declan Boyd (100 back), Nicolas Piazza (100 breast), and Pepijn Vriezen (100 free).
Saphir Thomas’ 1500 free was a new ‘A’ time, and new ‘AA’ times were achieved by Darina Smirnova (100 breast), and Matias Piazza (100 free).
As we approach the end of the season, these performances should give our swimmers a lot of confidence as we head into the final meets.
Carib Swim Team’s last hosted meet of the season will be the annual Summer Sizzler, to be held June 17-18.
