2024 Winter Age Group Championships Recap: MAX Swimmers Shine!
A record-breaking 17 MAX athletes participated in a total of 50 individual events and formed 3 relay teams swam 12 relay events, marking the highest number of qualified swimmers for the Winter Age Group Championships since the pandemic. With such a strong showing, MAX finished 19th overall out of more than 50 teams, with the men’s team placing 21st and the women’s team finishing 15th.
After three days of exciting competition at the 2024 Winter Age Group Championships, MAX swimmers put up a stellar performance, earning 5 first-place finishes and 11 top-10 individual event placements. Among the standouts were Maxine Garcilita Gonzalez, Kurt Gartland, Zander Kwan and Zoey Zhou, each showcasing impressive skills and determination in their respective events.

Meet Highlights:

Anika Lao, at 17 years old, qualified for her first WAG, exemplifying the power of perseverance and proving that it's never too late to achieve your goals.

Max Hong, Ray Zhang, and Elijah Noji—three new swimmers from the Bronze group—qualified for WAG for the first time, competing in three boys 11-12 relay events. Their efforts demonstrated impressive growth and teamwork.

Raylan Hong rose to the challenge, swimming both the boys 13-14 1650 and 1000 free events, and achieved the 2025 Summer Elite cut. A remarkable accomplishment!

First-time WAG qualifiers: Enoch Leung, Andy Chen, and Aiden Kwan joined forces with Marcus Lee and Raylan Hong, swimming a total of 4 relay events (boys 13-14). Their teamwork was a standout throughout the meet.

The girls 13-14 relay group—composed of Brooklyn Ameele, Kalea Canton, Jae Kim, and Zoey Zhou—worked together again to swim all five relay events in their age group, posting personal bests (PBs) across the board.
Team Records:
The meet was also a milestone for the team, with 6 new team records set, including some of the most recent updates. These achievements reflect the hard work and dedication of each swimmer on the team.
