PIRANHAS BRING HOME 20 MEDALS FROM WINTER AGE GROUP CHAMPS
The Piranha Swim Team sent 12 swimmers to the Winter Age Group Champipnships in Las Vegas,Dec.11-13 and brought home eight gold, seven silver, and five bronze medals.The Piranhas placed 14th overall,with a sixth place finish for women,and 24th for men,out of 50 teams from Southern California and Nevada.
Swimming for Piranhas were: Indira Ceranic, age 14, and Matt and Maureen Nevins,16 and 14, of Palm desert;Kat Wickham and Faith Travis,13, P.J. Redmon, 15, and Robert Wickham,16, Palm Springs;Shelby Andrade, 12, Alexa Wasserman, 13, and Lindsay Letellier, 14, La Quinta;Kelley Ostrander, 15, Twenty Nine palms;and Sara Kennedy, 15, Yucca Valley.
The 13-14 girls relay learn of Ceranic, Wickham and Wasserman won gold in the 400 free relay,silver in the 200 free, and placed fourth in the 200 and 400 medley relays.Ceranic,Travis, wickham and Letellier brought home silver for the 800 free relay.Palm Springs High sophomore P.J. Redmon,swimming in the boys 15 and older division,brought home gold for the 50 free(time of 22.48) and 200 IM (2:00.64).
Three Piranhas brought home individual medals for 13-14 girls.Winning first place was Indira Ceranic for the 50 free (24.50),200 free (1:55.44) and 200 back (2:10.88).She came in second for the 200 IM (2:16.62) and 4th for the 100 free (54.78) and 100 back (1:01.50).Kat Wickham won gold for the 500 free (5:20.66) and bronce for the 1000 free (11:01.37) and 1650 free (18:52.90), She placed 10th for the 200 free (2:07.18). Faith Travis eared a silver medal for the 1650 (18.45.41). She swam in finals (top ten) for four other events:6th place 500 free (5:26.50),7th place 200 free (2:05.08), 8th 400 IM
(4:57.04), and 9th 100 fly (1:05.19).
Shelby Andrade earned two silver medals for 11-12 girls in the 50 fly (28.03) and 100 IM (1:04.61), a bronze medal for the 50 back (29.83) fourth place in the 100 back (1:05.10) and fifth in the 100 fly (1:03.32) Lindsay Letellier placed in the top ten for 13-14 girls in the 1650 free with an 8th place time of 19:44.09. Swimming in the 15 and older girls division was Kelley Ostrander,who swam in finals of the 200 back and placed 6th with a time of 2:19.53.
