Wickham, Shaw Top 4, Team 16th
After Thursday night, the Piranha team sat in 15th place combined and the ladies were top 10. The Piranhas were looking to add to their totals with 9 scoring swims in the first full day of competition at the Junior Olympic meet in Long Beach.
At night, Adam Shaw swam to a 14th place finish in the 15-18 200 IM with a time of 1:58.46, just off from his preliminary time of 1:57.67. In the prelims, Alexa Wasserman swam to a best time of 2:15.22, and Shelby Andrade did a 2:19.83.
The 500 free featured Kat Wickham and Faith Travis both in the final heat of the 13-14 girls division. Kat captured 4th place with a time of 5:03.46, and Faith was 8th with a time of 5:13.31. Alexa also swam the preliminary heats in a best time of 5:23.49.
The 100 Breast was headed by Adam Shaw by getting 4th place in the event with a time of 59.48. He swam a 59.55 in the prelims with Matt Nevins going a best of 1:02.23.
The 200 Back looked to be the biggest point scoring event for the team. The 13-14 girls had Faith coming off a best time in the morning of 2:08.95 and finishing in 8th. The older girls of Indy Ceranic and Christina Bruni swam to best times in the prelims of 2:05.88 and 2:09.57 which helped them to score at night in 7th and 15th. Adam swam to a 16th place finish in the event as well.
The 50 free had two girls competing for points tonight. Indy swam a 24.16 to get 6th place while Kat swam a 25.62 to place 16th.
The girls Medley Relays capped off the evening with the teams of Faith, Alexa, Shelby and Kat getting 14th with a time of 4:14.62. While the relay of Christina, Sara Kennedy, Kelley Ostrander, and Indy captured 23rd place.
The team sits in 16th place after tonights session. The meet continues in Long Beach through Sunday night and the Piranhas hope to continue their great swims.
